So what happens to the users who still had days left on their rollback option to the previous Windows? Didn't the Fall Update cause the rollback option available to change from their Windows 7 or 8 to the July release instead? Isn't that the problem here? Putting a timer in Windows Update to hold the download until 30 days on Windows 10 has passed doesn't help the people who already lost thier legacy OS rollback.

It totally removes the possibility of clean installing and using your W7/W8 key to activate from the general public.

As the article states, That makes absolutely no sense at all, I think there is much more to it.

As mentioned above, there doesn’t appear to be a clear reason as to why Microsoft has made this change. It doesn’t make much sense for Microsoft to suddenly want users to upgrade via Windows Update, when not too long ago they were recommending users create an ISO for manual upgrade if they didn’t want to use Windows Update. Very confusing indeed.

  7. Windows Update is set now to give new upgraders from Window 7 or 8 at least 30 days to rollback by withholding the Fall Update until a user has been on Windows 10 at least 30 days. 10586 causes 10240 to replace their legacy OS as the previous version of Windows in the rollover option. That's what is going on.

If that's the case, then that is what they should say. The reason they give makes no sense. Releasing one group of setups and then changing so soon makes it look as if they have no idea what they are doing. As some others have said, I think there's much more to it than this.

MS can not monitor the installation / update / upgrade via the ISO method...

they can monitor the installation via windows update...

all the MS 10586 ESD downloads are valid and the newer 10586 mediacreationtool.exe still works.

  10. Yeah, they enticed people to try Windows 10 by telling them that they would have up to a month to change their minds and simply revert to their old OS and they have to keep that promise. No other choice. It may stay this way until 30 days after the free Windows 10 upgrade offer expires next July. Of course, one can still make his own .iso. I dread the number of websites that are going to pop up offering the unofficial .iso files for download. A lot of those are going to have all kinds of malware in them. This is Microsoft's gift that is going to keep on giving.

Then why did they make the 10586 ISO available at all? I'm still smelling a rat!

  12. I have Already upgraded to th2 using the mct and also have an iso of it. Does this mean I cannot use this iso to do a clean install?? Really Microsoft is only making things worse for themselves. Most of the issues experienced with th2 have been with WU mainly! So if something went wrong via WU, users will not be able to use the MCT. This also prevents them from doing a clean install which would be much more preferred on a PC that is quite old or has a lot of junk.

It doesn't mean that at all. It only means that there are no official links now for downloading new copies of the build 10586 .iso files. You are good to go.

  14. No official links for the average Joe. It's still up on MSDN so if you have a subscription you can still get ISO's there.
