Windows 10: 'msconfig' opens System Config, 'control' opens Control Panel, so what command to use to...

control panel won't open

I went onto Windows system, found "run" typed in "msconfig" and the panel opened. Then went to System Configuration and I unchecked "windows reporting error service". Then checked "apply". I closed the panel, then re-opened it. Then I opened the Control
Panel and I was able to get into it and use what I needed. Now Control Panel works.

 

I cannot open control panel

This issue could be because if some missing, corrupt or damaged files in your system. Kindly try the below methods and check if it helps.

Try to search for Control Panel and check if you could open it. If doesn't help, try the below methods.

Method 1: I suggest you to run System File Checker, which will check your system for missing, corrupt or damaged files and attempt to fix them.

Method 2: DISM:

If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state, then I suggest you to try the following steps:

• 
  Open command prompt by pressing Windows key + X and selecting “Command prompt admin”.
  
• 
  In command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
  
  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
  
  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  

• 
  Close the command prompt and restart the PC and check if it works.

Step 4: Create Control Panel shortcut on desktop.

• Right-click on desktop, click New, and then click Shortcut.
• In Type the location of the item box, type the following path.

• Click Next button.
• In the Type a name for this shortcut box, type Control Panel, and click Finish button. You can now double-click on the Control Panel icon on the desktop to quickly launch the same.

Step 5: Pin Control Panel to Start or taskbar.

  In the Start search box, type Control Panel.
  
• 
  When you see search results, right-click on Control Panel entry and then click Pin to Start to pin it to the Start menu or screen.
  

Note: Clicking Pin to taskbar will pin the Control Panel to taskbar.
