  2. Windows 8.1 with Bing

    .<QP>

..many new low cost devices will come with a new edition of Windows called Windows 8.1 with Bing. Windows 8.1 with Bing provides all the same great experiences that Windows 8.1 [with KB2919355 installed], and comes with Bing as the default search engine within
Internet Explorer...This new edition will be only be available preloaded on devices from our hardware partners.

    About purchasing Windows

Hey there, I'm planning to purchase Windows (home) for my Laptop PC. I'm kind of confuse in choosing Windows. MSFT says W10 will be launched on 29th, and there're no specs. What'll be its pricing? I saw that 10 will be free on W7, is it true? (so I could
buy W7 now and upgrade to W10 later!) cause I don't want to buy W8.1 at 19,000 INR if W10 is going to released at lower costs. Please give a suggestion!

    Thanks...

This is a good move actually. Not everyone will be able to afford the $100+ they're asking and Bing isn't that bad.

This will be great for people to use as an inexpensive remote control for their Smart Houses(Internet of Things IoT) Also Bing is only set as default, you can change it, of course then you'll have problems using some services. I've been a Bing fan since it's inception.

I picked up a couple of Intel Compute Sticks a few weeks back with Windows 8 with Bing on them, I've not had chance to try them out yet though.

I've read some of the initial reviews, and people were not impressed. Of course they were expecting a new super computer or something. But they're getting better: http://www.pcworld.com/article/29309...is-winter.html

MSFT to Release Low-Cost/Free Windows 10 with Bing branding

    Hi there

Smart move actually -- maybe they could port it to Windows Phone too -- I just wish Ms could get the Phone maker(s) to get better handsets --that's what puts me off a Windows phone (plus a few Banks don't seem to want to deal with Windows phones for their mobile banking apps).

    Cheers

I'm guessing that the comment relates to the lack of a way to clean install Windows 8.1 with Bing on a computer you bought. '8.1 With Bing' isn't an option in the Media Creation tool for 8.1, and the 8.1 Core version doesn't work with those keys.

So if you bought a PC with 8.1 Bing you haven't got a way to clean install 8.1, unlike the other 8.1 versions, without paying for a new licence / MSDN etc.

Edit: Unless there's a way to do it which I've not figured out?

  11. That's a hard ISO to get. It's not listed on MSDN either, not for me anyway. You'd have to get it from the OEM, if they do that, they may just stick you with recovery media. Or resort to bit torrent etc.
