Windows 10: MSIX Packaging Tool 1.2020.402.0 April 2020 release now available

We are happy to announce that the April 2020 release (1.2020.402.0) of the MSIX Packaging Tool is now available!

We have been evaluating the public health situation and understand the impact this is having on many of our customers. Due to the current circumstances, we are offering the April 2020 release as an opt-in update.

If you are eager to move on to the latest public release of the MSIX Packaging Tool, you can download it now, here. If this is your first time downloading the tool, you will also need this license. Weâve also gone ahead and updated our Quick Create VM with the April release, so you can get it that way too.

Our April 2020 release features new abilities such as importing and exporting registry keys, and the ability to add MSIX Core support through the UI of the tool, rather than editing the manifest manually. To learn more about other great features and fixes weâve made, you can check out our release notes. If you have any questions, feature ideas, or just want to connect with the Product Team, join our Tech Community. We love connecting and hearing from you, so donât hesitate to file any feedback with us via the Feedback Hub as well!

Donât forget about our Insider Program, which gets you early access to releases as they are in development! If you are already a member, you have the public release version of the MSIX Packaging Tool available to you today!

We will re-evaluate our process with our next release which is targeted in the July 2020 timeframe but in the meantime, we hope you are well and staying safe.

MSIX Packaging Tool 1.2019.1220.0J January 2020 release now available

The January 2020 release of the MSIX Packaging Tool is now live!!

The January 2020 release brings a handful of improvements and features.

We have added some support for new features that are part of Windows 10 version 2004. The MSIX Packaging Tool supports the capturing of Windows services. We also enable all packages to leverage the improved package integrity features. While both of these features are part of the Windows 10 version 2004, you can still use Windows 10 version 1809 for your repackaging environment.

We have made more improvements to the packaging flow and added the ability to drag and drop of files with in the package editor.

For folks that love the Quick Create VM, we have updated that to include the new version of the MSIX Packaging Tool. We have also updated the OS to Windows 10 version 1909.

MSIX Packaging Tool for Windows 10 released to the Microsoft Store

We are happy to announce that the official release of the MSIX Packaging Tool is now available from the Microsoft Store. MSIX Packaging Tool enables you to update your existing win32 application packages to the MSIX format. You can run your desktop installers through this tool and obtain an MSIX package that you can install on your devices and upload to the Microsoft Store.

Prerequisites:

Windows 10 1809 or later

Participation in the Windows Insider Program (only required if using a Windows Insider Build)

A valid Microsoft account (MSA) alias to access the app from the Store

Administrator privileges on your PC account

Getting Started:

To install MSIX Packaging Tool from Microsoft Store, go here, making sure you are logged in with the MSA. Next, go to the product description page and click the Install icon to begin the installation. For Microsoft Store for Business users, the app is also available for offline download.
