  1. MsMpEng.exe consistently reading/writing/scanning to the HDD

In the current year my PC is a potato, was very good not too long ago.

At this time I am trying to run 7 Days to Die, with the Darkness Falls mod, and as 7 Days is poorly optimized ( and not at all for SLI ) my frame rate suffers, however, it is playable.

That is until MsMpEng.exe decides to yet again consistently scan/read/write what seems like 100's of MB's, and does so in bursts every 20 mins to a couple of hours. Why? It's not as if it's recently downloaded definitions. It this the result of the "Real Time Scan" portion? I would disable that part if I didn't need to be connected to Steam and by extension, the internet to use the game.

More importantly however...why the hell does it decide to do this while I am running an application that sometimes needs upwards of 9 GB of my 12 GB of memory? It reverts to a damned slideshow, and that's the last thing I need whilst battling a horde of 64 enemies, what's worse is it completely freezes 7 Days for minutes.

I would add another 12 GB of ram, unfortunately, I do not have the $100+ of disposable cash to throw at it.

So basically I need to "disable" certain functions from running whilst gaming. Win10 used to do that, as I recall, I'd get popups after shutting games down stating what was held back. I haven't seen that in months.

    :)

MsMpEng.exe consistently reading/writing/scanning to the HDD

    Insanely slow HDD random read/write

I'm playing tech support for a relative, and her (ASUS K53E) laptop SATA HDD has insanely slow random read/write. Sequential r/w is around 74 MB/s, which seems fine, but random is around 1 MB/s. Hard disk health is fine according to S.M.A.R.T. Win10 1709 Pro x64. Pentium B960; HM65 Express chipset using the Microsoft Standard SATA AHCI Controller driver. Windows update doesn't have any driver updates; Intel driver tool returns nothing; Asus website has no Windows 10 drivers. I'm at a loss, any suggestions?
