A freeze or crash indicates a hardware problem.

  2. Whats the best way to go about figuring out what piece of hardware? Also, i tried swapping out ram before and the problem persisted, would it be worth trying again after ive disabled the startup programs

    How old is your system?

The best way usually is to remove all unnecessary hardware, then boot and see if the problem occurs. If it doesn't then add one piece of hardware and see if the problem occurs again, keep doing this until you find the cause.
If the problem occurs with the minimum, in case of RAM and GPU swapping may help. You may want to check the hardware for physical damage or try it in another system.

With laptops, if there is still warranty then it should be used to get a replacement. If there isn't, laptops are more difficult to troubleshoot than desktops, because if the problem is the motherboard you cannot as easy replace it because the form is per laptop different.

You could try swapping the RAM to identify if it is the RAM or the motherboard giving the error.

  7. I swapped ram before and never had a problem. If its not ram its gotta be the morherboard?

Just speaking from experience, there are times when new RAM appears to be faulty too (in rare situations also the new RAM that has been exchanged for the new faulty RAM)
If it is the motherboard, there is nothing to do since it can't be replaced like with desktops. It would need to be done by a specialist from the manufacturer, not a local repair shop. Usually, with laptops, there is some information flashed in the BIOS that activates the OS, when you replace the motherboard in a local repair shop you loose the BIOS information which is very useful from time to time when reinstallation is required. The manufacturer specialist (should!*) replace the motherboard with another one that has the BIOS information flashed.
    * some forget to flash the BIOS with information beforehand, so it is recommended to let someone else check it

I honestly am not sure how the activation in the latest Win10 version exactly works, since it has changed a little, but for the Win10 versions I do know, the activation, outside of the BIOS part, is bound to the hardware.
On the servers of Microsoft there is a digital entitlement. This digital entitlement basically is information about your hardware and used for activation when you reinstall Windows 10, making it possible to reinstall anytime you'd like. When you change the motherboard, the information about your hardware changes, so when you reinstall Windows 10 you can't activate because the hardware information isn't the same as the information the digital entitlement has. (Of course, when changing hard drives, the digital entitlement won't be lost)

Looking at your generic activation details, your notebook is upgraded to Windows 10 meaning that your BIOS has information flashed before it came to you.

  12. Awesome well thanks for the help. I will mark it as solved as you helped me pretty much narrow the problem down. Now to decide if fixing it is worth it or buying a new one. Thanks!
