Windows 10: Multiple Desktop folder duplicate in download folder causing storage to be doubled

i accidentally moved Desktop folder into the Downloads folder, causing it to appear as a duplicate and it doubles my storage, and if i delete the file in the duplicate one, the file in my desktop also will be deleted. how can i remove it without deleting my files

Hi,

I find there is desktop folder in the download folder and it cause my storage doubled (as if i copied the whole folder into the download file).

I cant delete the desktop folder (in the download folder) because i found that it linked with my desktop. If i delete the file in the duplicate one, the file in my desktop also will be deleted.

Hi Sya. I'm Greg, 10 years awarded Windows MVP, here to help you.

It sounds like someone might have moved the official shell Desktop folder into the Downloads folder. Does it have the screen insignia on it? Right click it to see if there is a Location tab. If so that is indeed the official shell user folder. To restore it to it's default location click the button on Location Tab to Restore Default location. Let it copy the files back too.

If it's not the official Desktop folder then see if you can locate it here to make sure it's in it's default location:

All ways are there to restore these official folders even if they must be rebuilt from scratch.

Report back results for each step so I know what else to suggest.

wait, just re read it. IN THE DOWNLOAD FOLDER?
take that folder and put it in C:\Users\yourusername where it should be
