Windows 10: Multiple Hardrive failure over the course of a year

So my question is, is there anything whether it be software or hardware that could cause multiple DIFFERENT brands and sizes and types of hard drives to keep failing?

The story is: in 2015 I had to replace 2 barracudas (I know they are terrible anyways) but then i went and got two 1 TB WD Blacks and one WD SSD 250gb and reset my computer with a fresh install of windows 10 x64 pro. two weeks later one of the WD blacks went bad. went and replaced it rebuilt my raid, and then it worked fine for like 3 months. Now my SSD went bad and i had it exchanged.

Is there anything inside my computer (hardware) that could cause this kind of thing to happen? Or maybe a software problem?

EDIT: The system specs i currently have on my profile is not the pc that i am having this issue on. Give me time to update them when i get the computer running again. (Install windows 10 again). I will post another edit when i have done so.

While I am here, it wouldn't hurt to ask. I have a built raid 1 with the two aforementioned WD Blacks. When I install windows 10 x64 on the replaced ssd, is there any extra setup required to get windows to recognize those apps and programs i installed onto the other drives? (I realize this may or may not belong here, so I apologize if it does not. But seeing as it is related to the main issue at hand I figured why clutter the forum?)

So, clear cache in lieu of updating the codecs for new cameras? Tried it. No help. No surprises here. There are comments here from multiple users across multiple versions of Windows with the same issue. The codecs have not been updated for more than 2 years
now. Unprecedented failure to support users with what should be basic functionality. Worth noting again, Apple had this done within days of the 7D mark II camera's release well over a year ago.

Tapatalk you cannot see the system info. If it is a desktop, a bad power supply will kill drives that fast.

 

WD "Black" HDDs are really not meant for that. I had to replace few in normal use, they just don't make them like they used to. WD makes HDDs meant just for NAS usage. If you have them in RAID0, any problem with one of them will brake RAID.

 

If you recreated the SSD OS from an image file it should work with pre-installed apps and programs on the Raid drive. If, however, you performed a fresh install of the OS on the SSD then you will need to re-install all apps onto either the SSD or the raid drive. The vast majority of windows Apps and programs store at least some of there settings and files on the OS drive wherever they are installed. they also write a lot of information to the registry

 

Heat will destroy any hardware. Since you are going through hard drives quickly, monitor the temperature of them over time. There are utilities that do that (Hard Disk Sentinel is one that can usually be gotten as a freebie). Make sure your fan(s) are clean and running.

 

Be sure you have a good quality PSU. Others can advise you on that. For a situation like this quality is more important than power ratings, but of course they must be adequate.

The PSU is a critical component of any computer but it often doesn't get the attention it deserves. In many cases the only things considered are power ratings and price. But ratings are often not what they appear. A manufacturer can play games with ratings so a cheap PSU may actually have less capability than a quality PSU with lower ratings. For reliable operation a PSU must provide clean output at stable voltages under all operating conditions. Cheap PSUs may fail to do that, even when they have good ratings.

 

so how do i check the psu to see if that could be the problem? And what am i looking for exactly?
I regularly blow my computer out with compressed air to keep it free from dust. all my fans are working and I have added two additional fans that blow across the hardrive bay.

Should i be using Intel raid utility (IRST) or should i be using marvel.
I went to my motherboards website and it wants me to download marvel it never mentions intel. But i have a intel core. and was told by my local computer shop (Microcenter) that i should use intels RST.

And lastly, it has been quite a while since i had to actually do a full reset myself. I forgot what all i need to download after windows gets installed.

 

Marvel is the SATA chip controller. That still will not fix what is going on.

Take it to a local "mom and pop" shop that has the tester for checking voltages. If you want one for your own use. You can buy them on Amazon or Newegg.

 

I've been having more trouble with WDs than with Seagates lately. Neither company gives you a damns worth of warranty anyway.

 

Have you considered an SSD? I have them in all my computers. Once you go SSD, you'll never go back!

 

Those WD Black are made for speed, RAID0 is specially vulnerable to any errors and require closely matched drives.

 

The one that just failed is an ssd.

My array is as follows.

Main os > WD SSD 250 gb
Programs and what not >Sata raid 0> 2 wd black 1tb

 

The two drives that are mirror of one another, are both WD Blacks 1 tb. Do tou suggest a different type of drive for raid 0?
I need raid 0 because my career is graphic design and all my work files are stored there. If I have any failures i can't afford to lose those files. So raid 0 is a necessity. So if you have any suggestions they are welcome! I Do know that it will not solve my issue currently but it will "offset it" at the very least until i can find a more permanent solution.

Is it possible that maybe i just have really bad Luck? The only reason I even thought it might be some under lying cause is because microcenter techs told me that this is odd and could be something else causing them to go bad. When I asked what could it be they offered a 40$ diagnostics. So I dont know if they are just trying to sell me things or if it may actually be something wrong. I do know that this type of thing is unusual but not un heard of, I have heard stories of people having bad drives alot. It seems the quality of mechanical drives has dipped significantly, since SSD are going to soon make them obsolete.

Anyway to test it without faking it to the shop? There's no programs I can download to test the rails on my psu?
