  1. Multiple mysterious problems, trying to find cause

    Hi there everyone,

I was hoping that someone might be able to help me figure out what is going wrong with my new Windows 10 PC because it is starting to impede my ability to use my computer. I've troubleshooted everything I can think of and I'm still not sure what the problem is. I'll just describe the events below.

    - Boot up fresh and install a variety of safe software (Steam, Chrome, Acrobat, etc)
    - Windows fails to reboot, I decide to do full reset to get rid of bloatware
    - Install same software, rebooting after each installation
    - Acrobat causes boot failure again
    - Boot in safemode and try to uninstall it, there is a problem with the windows installer application preventing me from doing so
    - Restore system to before I installed acrobat
    Now...
    - Discord causes Java Script errors on launch
    - My monitor was working until yesterday but now windows can't detect it
    - Git for Desktop and Java 8 simply fail to install

I don't understand what could cause my PC to act in such an odd way. Is there any use in performing another system reset? Is it possibly a problem with my hardware? I read online that there were some problems with Windows for AMD users (although I am not one) perhaps I just need to wait for windows to be updated?

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!

    :)

  2. Help trying to find cause, and fix BSOD's

Thanks for the update. Judging by the past frequency of blue screen errors you should get a good idea of whether the problem is fixed soon.

  3. Help trying to find cause, and fix BSOD's

Virtualbox was raised by me merely to point out the persistent error and one that needing fixing. I agree it has nothing to do with the BSOD issue.

The problem with BIOS updates is often that it is difficult to know exactly what they resolve. I just feel that
Fix Memory Frequency mismatch issue offers something where a solution is looking elusive.

Multiple mysterious problems, trying to find cause

Just curious, before starting to install third party apps, did you do a Windows Update check for updates? I always make a habit of running Windows Update on a new computer until there are no new updates to install. Then I start installing third party software.

  5. I did not, but looking now it says windows automatically checked yesterday. Are there any other troubleshooting ideas you may have?

When you say that "Windows fails to boot," exactly when does it fail? Does it fail at POST time, or when the circling Windows 10 throbber comes up, or later?

  7. I suppose I wasn't properly specific enough. My PC was stuck on the ASUS logo while it was loading the OS was loading for about 10 hours the first time and 3 hours the second time. It didn't fail so much as it never suceeded.

When you can get it to boot up have you checked the Events Viewer to see if there are errors being reported there?

Are you installing a version of Acrobat that is compatible with Windows 10?

    What manufacturer is your computer?

    1) open administrative command prompt and type or copy and paste:
    2) sfc /scannow
    3) dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
    4) dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
    5) chkdsk /scan
    6) When these have completed > right click on the top bar or title bar of the administrative command prompt box > left click on edit then select all > right click on the top bar again > left click on edit then copy > paste into the thread
    7) msconfig (in the pop up system configuration > move the dot from normal startup to selective startup > uncheck load startup items > click service tab > in left lower corner check hide all Microsoft services > in the lower right side click disable all > click apply or ok > do not reboot)

    8) taskmgr (in the pop up task manager > click on the start up tab > click on status so that the column sorts with enable rising to the top > right click on each row with enable and change to disable)

  10. I've never dealt with the events viewer before. What exactly am I looking for?
Yes, Acrobat was working fine before the crash. Then, in safe mode when I tried to uninstall it, the problem was that "windows installer has not been installed correctly".
    It's an Asus

AshInTheTrash, since you mentioned Windows reset often, I assume it's no problem for you to install all your programs and start fresh.

Don't like that mention of java scripts at start ... so I would recommend clean install. Get fresh Windows ISO from Microsoft and make bootable USB stick, wipe Windows partition and do a clean Windows install.

Otherwise Zbook's advice is good start to troubleshoot, but will last at least the same time.

  13. Multiple mysterious problems, trying to find cause

@AndreTen, I'm just concerned that if I've had these problems after a system reset once already, why would it not happen again?

System reset makes Windows almost like new. Clean install does make them new. Also wiping partition is important. There could be some kind of malware present, and after you check what zbook said, you'll have to run at least Malwarebytes and others scans

  15. Oh, alright I was not aware of that. Perhaps it is the best option considering I have nothing of value on this PC yet...
