Windows 10: Multiple unsuccessful sign in attempts from other countries Hacker/Bot use VPN

I rarely check Microsoft account because I only have enough money to pay for Windows. I only recently checked due to "login code", which is something I never requested for. It turns out that some third party has the full email address of mine, and constantly using it to try sign into my account. There is nothing I can do except by changing alias to new Outlook email, and hoping they give up.I also cannot register my phone number to sign in due to my account was registered as "United States", rather than "Malaysia". The self-help topics are not helpful, since there is no assurance from official

if you are seeing multiple unsuccessful sign in attempts on your account from locations you do not recognize, then they are attempts to hack your account, it is not actually a person, it is a bot trying to access your account.

I recently decided to check my sign-in history, and I was disturbed to find a few days ago someone had tried to sign-in from another country. It was an unsuccessful attempt though, but I do wonder if my account is still safe.

Should I change my password, even though it's been days now since the attempt and nothing has happened to my account/device?
