Windows 10: My 12 month subscription code for Microsoft 365 Personal will not renew on my Microsoft...

I originally subscribed to Office 365 Family and got a free month subscription. Because of security reasons, instead of using my credit card to continue with my purchase, I bought a 12 month card at the local Staples store. By accident, I got a subscription for Personal, not Family and now its saying there's an error and cannot use my product key. Is this because I got the free month? How do I apply my purchase to my account?

The clue is in the subject - but yes it is a personal account for 365 Microsoft software, Windows 10 on my PC.

All I want to do is pay the renewal, how hard can that be. Last time I had such a problem that the Manager offered me a year's free subscription. Is this going to be a repeat performance?

Can't I just make a bank transfer?

If you want to renew an Office 365 Home or Personal Subscription you can do it online through the following steps:

Go to Office.com/renew.

Choose the subscription you want to renew and then choose one of the following:

Renew now to pay now for a full year of Office 365.

Renew with a monthly subscription for $X.XX per month to pay for a month at a time.
