    My computer is dead thanks to update 1803 a year of twenty attempts for the update failing...


    My computer is no longer working thanks to Windows 10 update,1803 which is I think a media developer tool for developers not me I didn't want it to install it but after postponing the update I made the mistake of leaving my computer unattended while I made a cup of tea and when I came back it was updating so I had to leave it running. This time it got to 81% then stuck at that, the twenty odd previous times only got to 41% then I had to turn it off and it loaded a previous version this time it can't load I can't even restore earlier point. What can I do I haven't got a disc my original Windows was Windows 8 and the 10 was the free download everyone was persuaded to download. Help

    Win10: windows update stuck at never ending loop ?

    When in win10:
    • Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....
    Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
    - Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

    Windows Updates failed to instal

    I just did step one and they have just all installed.... thank you so much.... it was quite frustrating having that update window pop up every 5 minutes and failing to instal every time

    Well, you can read thru logs like setuperr.log and see if they suggest anything. Unfortunately it's not easy.

    Mostly ends up saying hide the upgrade and hope for success some time later. Unfortunately the first stage will still be to upgrade to 1803, so that means hoping MS changes the base build in some way. The typical pattern is for MS to produce a base build, then an update almost as big a couple of months later.
