    My Conexant SmartAudio HD Sound card stopped working after the last Windows 10 update


    This happened to me a few weeks ago, and when I tried to update the driver for the sound card, it told me it was up to date, but there was a Windows update that might fix the problem. I downloaded it and it worked fine.


    Today, the problem happened again and the only message I get when I check drivers is that the sound card and Windows are up to date.


    Has anyone else had this problem?

    conexant smartaudio hd can i remove it permanently ?

    Yeah so conexant smartaudio hd kinda messes up the sounds specially in games

    the high definition audio device works way better for me

    I just need a way to make windows 10 stop installing it and permanently remove the conexant smartaudio hd

    Is there any fix for this ?

    Original Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit

    computer model: Toshiba P500-ST6844

    Current Operating System: Windows 10 Professional 15063 64-bit

    I have not had any issues like what you are encountering. I suspect it might be because of the Audio Codec chip difference. My laptop uses a Conexant CX20549 chip, and is using the last released Windows 7 drivers with out issues. The driver files depicted
    used for your device seem to be the same ones used for my Conexant card, except i'm using newer versions because my chip is newer. It is unfortunate that Conexant does not provide sound drivers for their chips to the public, even if they were only bare drivers.
    On the site for my laptop at support.toshiba.com, they try and push off a 'newer version' of the driver to the users. but it does not work. I turns the 'Conexant SmartAudio HD' device into 'Conexant Pebble High Defintion SmartAudio' but although windows thinks
    the device is working, no sound will play. this driver is obviously the wrong one for the chip included with my laptop. using driver version 4.126.0.62 is the latest version that works for me. I did tell Toshiba about this, but they did not either care or
    believe me about the problem because the driver is still up 4 years later.

    Are you able to determine what codec chip your laptop uses? Conexant probably isn't listing the chip on their site anymore, but to look for it, Archive.org is the best place to look at past versions of the Conexant.com page.

    It's unlikely, but possible your chip might have windows 7, 8 or even 10 drivers for another laptop model or even from another laptop maker that is better working than what you have now.
