Windows 10: My cursor has disappeared and touchpad gestures do not work.

I have an acer swift laptop. Out of the blue during a browsing session, my cursor froze. Touchpad gestures also didn't work. I tried to restart and the cursor was just frozen in the centre of the screen instead.


I went to device manager, went to 'mice and other pointing devices' and updated drivers. That didn't work.


I restarted again and the cursor went from being frozen to disappearing entirely.


I experimented by plugging in a wireless mouse, and that's working fine. However the touch pad is still unresponsive, and when I unplug the wireless mouse, the cursor is once again frozen.


Is there anything else that I can try before taking my laptop to the store? I'm starting to think that it might be an issue with the touch pad itself and not with windows 10.

Hi there,

1. Go to N501VW | ASUS Global Downloads
2. Download the latest ATK - ATKPackage driver
3. Download the latest TouchPad - ASUS Smart Gesture (Touchpad Driver)
4. Uninstall both the Touchpad driver and the Asus ATK package driver.
5. Reboot
6. First install ATKPackage driver (IMPORTANT to do this FIRST)
7. Reboot
8. Then install the TouchPad driver (may need to reboot)
9. Test if all is working as it should

I had this same issue with my Asus UX305 when I upgraded to Windows version 1803 and doing the above steps solved the issue for me.

I suggest you install the touchpad driver from your PC manufacturer.

Thanks. This procedure worked. Though, as noted in the conversation below, the current driver 4021 does not work with my configuration. I had a copy of 405 so I used that for the re-install and now touchpad is working again.

Something must have thrown it off so that I needed a re-install but the latest driver doesn't work.
