Windows 10: My Desktop has Disappeared

I am using the latest version of Windows 10 updated as of today. Last week, the desktop and task bar suddenly disappeared, I was able to use System Restore to get it back. It disappeared again today and system restore can't be accessed or anything else use the search function. All the solutions for this apparent common problem don't work. Under Personalisation, there is no menu item to view desktop icons as described in some "solutions". I do have the taskbar but no desktop. Is it a bug in the Microsoft auto-update? It is concerning that I can no longer access system restore even though I know that there are restore points in the computer. I get an error message saying Can't find System Restore. Some of the solutions suggest that Explorer.exe may be corrupted - if this is the case how do I re-install this? Unfortunately, this HP notebook was very expensive but expensive doesn't mean reliable. I have had a long and sorry history of faults, probably caused by the poor quality of software these days.

Desktop Disappeared After Windows 10 Update

After upgrading to windows 10, my desktop completely disappeared, sometimes it will flash for a micro second. The Desktop folder is still in my folder list and I can access it that way but prefer to have access to my desktop. I saw the other thread where
it suggested a clean boot, but this did not work. Any other suggestions?

Desktop shortcuts disappearing

One of the computers i maintain has a few of the desktop shortcuts disappearing now and then. It runs windows 7, and has a shitload of shortcuts on the desktop.

Any idea what might cause this?

 

Desktop Icons disappeared

Hi Kinsley,

• Are you referring to the desktop icons?
• When did the icons disappear? Did you make any changes to the system Settings?

It's possible that your device is in Tablet mode. I suggest you to turn it off and check if the icons appear. To do so, select the
Action center icon on the taskbar (the little message box next to the date and time), and then select
Tablet mode to turn it on or off.
