Windows 10: my factory-installed camera on my laptop no longer works

Hi Greg I have been following some of your responses to other peoples questions, and I think that you would be able to help me with my problems. So I'm not sure when it began, but my factory installed webcam on my laptop which is an HP 15 beats is no longer working. I'm fairly certain this is due to an automatic update from windows. I have tried many solutions that other " experts" have given to me. Such as rolling back drivers to previous versions, uninstalling drivers, reinstalling drivers, etc. I have also tried using system restore where I ran into a problem, I had no restore point that went back far enough to fix the problem. I also tried 2 rollback my installation of my current version of windows however it had been longer than 30 days since I had installed it, therefore, I was not allowed to do this. There are a whole host of other issues I have with my current situation, and if you're willing to help me, I would greatly appreciate it...I figure, let's work on one thing at a time. Windows Camera app no longer works


On my ASUS G74SX-3DE Notebook, Windows Camera no longer works after the app update(s) recently.

It would start up with:




I have no idea who makes the camera for the device and ASUS doesn't provide Windows 10 drivers except the camera works fine with other apps.

Windows installs a driver with the device listed as:
USB2.0 UVC 1M WebCam
in device manager with driver version 10.0.10240.16384 and the date

USB\VID_13D3&PID_5134&MI_00
USB\VID_13D3&PID_5134&REV_0725&MI_00

is the device ID's

Thanks for updating us on the results of the troubleshooting steps that you have completed. Since the built-in webcam is still not working correctly and the same error code 0xA00F4244 (0xC00DABED) is still appearing, we suggest that we check the camera privacy
settings to see if the camera access is turned on. Kindly follow the steps below to check the camera privacy settings:

• Press the Windows key + I to open the Settings app.
• Near the top of the Settings app window is the search box, kindly type the word "webcam" or "camera".
• From the list of results choose Camera privacy settings.
• Make sure that "Let apps use my camera" toggle is set to On.

Camera on Laptop Not Working

I tried all 3 of your suggestions and it did not fix the issue, in fact it might have made it worse. I tried updating the device drivers for the camera and also the web cam (web cam shows in Sound, video and game controllers) but in both cases the driver
update said latest driver installed. After I finished the 3 suggestions I rebooted and now I get a screen that says it can't find camera and when I look at device manager it is no longer listed there. I then went into the Windows Store to install the camera
app (which still shows in my list of apps) and the store said it was installed.

Any more suggestions would be appreciated, maybe you can tell me how to uninstall the camera app so I can then reinstall it (FYI, web cam will also not work but I guess it doesn't work because the camera is not working).

After I wrote the above, I shut down my PC and restarted it (rather than just doing a reboot that I had done before) and the camera shows in the device manager so my prblem is back to exactly the way I first described it.
