The only thing I can think of is that somewhere in the software is a place to enter the url of the site. It would seem that the full address is inserted there including the www, when this is not needed in this version. I'd check to see if there is an entry and if you can remove the www part

  2. Hmm. A new clue...and with this one I figure I may have to post to another forum as I'm assuming it's no longer Win 10 specific (or is it?).

Although I can access phpinfo, I can't access the database / phpMyadmin / MySQL admin. It all leads to this error printout.

Just a guess *Smile but that sort of error is often related to an incorrect user name or password that's being passed to a script - but is possibly something that would be on a FAQ list on the developers site, (Credential errors are very common in all types of programming/scripting set-ups) *Smile

I wish it was that easy lol... but installing DesktopServer (even the free Limited version) does not require one to input credentials. I thought I had found something regarding the hosts file but I dont think there's anything unusual in my hosts file. The sites created are being written in there. And I dont know if access to PhPMyadmin would have anything to do with that file....

PHP is a scripting/programming language used to create web pages with more advanced functionality, there is a lot of PHP used in putting this site together, I am not involved in that side of things here, But I have seen errors generated from PHP routines.

I think you need to report the errors to the software developers as they seem to be more related to the design or construction of the site or web server than the underlying Windows OS, (hosts is part of the OS and lists local DNS redirects so is unlikely to be the issue here)

  7. OK, I'm back with a solution to ONE of the issues!
So the extra "www" was being added by DesktopServer to the imported site during the scrubbing process (aka. search/replace process that occurs to make the site work locally). There is a Customize Scrubbing Options that I decided to look into and I realized that it was replacing all url values without "www" with a local site that has "www". So I simply removed the extra "www" here in the scrubbing options.

As for the PhpMyAdmin issue, I was able to get rid of that by using a different version of DesktopServer so it looks like it might be related to that particular version.

How do you permanently disable Read-Only on the hosts file or etc folder? I'm unchecking it so that I can save a modification to it but it won't let me save and whenever I disable Read-Only, it doesn't stick. (Kinda like my original issue in this thread).
