Windows 10: My laptop got rid of all my desktop icons, changed everything to generic (background, login...

A few days ago I logged in and suddenly my login background was changed to a generic picture, my desktop background is a generic picture, all the icons on my desktop for important files were gone, and I am only able to access basic apps like chrome, avg tuneup, turbotax.

I am not able to view my business documents or pictures, they are still in windows c > users > my name > files, and I can access them from there, but WTF happened to my desktop?

I'm currently trying to transfer a few files via bluetooth to my phone and now it's not even letting me access bluetooth via my laptop, let alone turn it ON.

I was also logged out of all my accounts in chrome and my passwords aren't being saved. Windows claims I am in my account but WTF why did this happen out of nowhere???

How do I restore all my settings, put files back where they were, etc?

change desktop background color

Hi,

To change the desktop background into a solid color, see the steps below:

• Right-click on the desktop, and select Personalize.
• Under Personalization, select Background.
• On the right pane, click on the drop-down menu for Background, and then select
  Solid color.
• Choose your preferred color and it should immediately make changes.

• Press Windows Logo Key + I. Then click on Personalization.
• Click on Background to change it.

Cannot change desktop icon

Sometimes a desktop icon changes from what it was to a plain white folder. Might be something I did but not sure what.

To change it to the icon I want, I go:

1. Rt-click icon > Properties > Change icon
2. I select the icon I want from the thumbnails of icons.
3. Click OK
4. Click Apply

But the icon does not change. It just stays looking like a white folder.
HOWEVER, if I pin the icon to the taskbar, the icon on the taskbar does look like the icon I selected in step-2. So the change is registered with Win10 but the icon on the desktop just doesn't change.

Any ideas on how to fix this?
