Windows 10: my PC monitor's colours, randomly appear washed out over time?

I have had this ASUS monitor for coming up 3 years this November, have had zero problems until about a couple days ago my computer screen's colours will randomly fade, and appear washed out. When i play games the contrast looks a bit different than usual too.


When i first turn the computer on in the morning, the colours seem fine for a little while before they fade again, so I have a suspicion it might be related to the hot weather we've been having here in the UK. My GPU temps are only in the 40s to low 50s though.


I did a Google Search and someone said to go into Nvidia Control Panel > turn on Nvidia Colour Settings > change Output Dynamic Range from Limited to Full, but that makes images look blurry, with too much contrast & gamma and the black colour of Youtube videos are pixelated for example.

I checked for loose cables, I checked my monitor's settings, checked the Brightness and Contrast, even re-calibrated the display but it didn't help. I checked drivers which appear up-to-date, opened my pc case and dusted everything but that didn't help either.

Any ideas appreciated.


I don't have another computer to test the monitor and GPU separately btw.

Washed out colours after display sleep

I have the problem of washed out colours after power management turns the display off. This PC has Nvidia 7050 chip, Nvidia no longer support this, so win 10 has installed Microsoft basic driver, which is a step forward as previous builds just said this
pc is not compatible.

Also I have set the display turn off time to never, will this also stop the PC from going to standby/sleep?

I wonder why nobody has suggested the OP to make a screenshot of display showing these "washed out colors"? Everything I have read in this thread suggests that the issue is not in Windows, but instead in display / monitor.

My suggestion: next time you'll see these washed out colors, make a screenshot and post it here. If the screenshot shows us that colors are OK, then the issue is your monitor failing.
