    Hello!

I have used Windows 7 on my previous laptop and have never noticed such change is response speed. On my new laptop (running Windows 10) I experience low response speed when HDD is actively used, especially when a Windows update is downloading in background. Or when copying large amount of data to external storage. Mouse moves without delay, but folders and programs open long after clicking on them. Also PC goes to sleep or locks with delay when update is downloading in background. Is that normal?

Normally (most of the time, when HDD usage is less than 10-20%) PC responds rather good, without delays. My specs are Intel Core i5 (8th gen.), 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD.

    :)

    Program running a background process?

I'm running Corel Video Studio 2018, and it's updates function shows characteristics of a background process:

    - the program has an auto check daily plus a manual option for updates

    - manually checked, presented with an option of downloading an update and Ok'd, evidence of any activity vanishes from the program workspace, yet the connected internet modem activity light begins running hot as the download happens

    - it's repeatable over several up-date cycles

The evidence seems to suggest a background activity - whilst the program/PC is free to use for other things. Several software packages do this.

However, a check in task manager/processes, show all, does not display any info of a related background process for any Corel or Video Studio program. If a background process is being used by the software, MUST it be listed in the task manager/processes
    list?

Platform is windows 7 home sp1 64bit plus the important patches.

    Background Processes/Windows Processes Nonsense

    Hi,

The Windows processes are the programs and system processes that are necessarily needed so that the operating system could run and function properly. The Background processes, on the other hand, are the programs that are needed by the applications installed
on the computer. Having many Windows processes and Background processes is normal. As we write this reply, we have 54 Background processes and 78 Windows processes.

If you would want to end a process in task manager, just click on the process and then click on End task button.

If your computer is running slow, you can use this link as a guide on how to improve PC performance.

Let us know if further assistance is needed.
