Windows 10: My printer HP LaserJet 1018 is recognized as "unspecified" device

If I look at the drivers details it is a "generic Printer" drive, so it should be good.

If I update the driver it does not find anything.


I tried to uninstall the driver listed under "generic software device" then I removed the device from devices and drivers, but to no avail, when I plug the printer usb it automatically reinstalls as an unspecified device.


In the HP laserJet 1018 drivers page there are no drivers because it tell to automatically install the printer using the Windows 10 supplied drivers.


If I try to use my old CD drivers install the system tell me it has better driver and do not install them.

I have Windows 10 ver.1909 build 18363.836


NOTE: My laptop with Windows 10 ver. 1709 build 16299.1868 correctly recognize the same device as a "printer" with the same generic printer driver installed, and the printer works perfectly.

After installing Canon WiFi printer, HP usb printer can be found as a usb Other Device, but not as a usb Printer device

Windows Update produced a list of HP printers but HP Laserjet 1020 was not in the list. HP LaserJet 1018, my printer, was also no listed.

Windows 10 is finding the printer but doesn't recognize the device as a printer. It categorizes it as "Other devices".

 

How can I get Windows 10 to recognize an Unspecified Device as a Printer?

I have installed a DYMO printer, but it is not listed as a printer but only as an Unspecified Device. How can I get Windows 10 to recognize an Unspecified Device as a Printer? All printer troubleshooting steps require it to be listed as a Printer, and
all Help solutions assume that it can be recognized as a printer.

 

Unable to find HP laser jet 1018 printer driver

I am trying to install my HP laserjet 1018 printer on my Windows 10, version 1809 I attempted the following method after connecting printer over USB,

Click add printer > the printer that I want isn't listed>Add a local printer or network printer with manual setting>IN Use an existing port USB001( virtual printer port for USB) was selected > clicked on windows update button > then in manufacture column selected
HP, but in printer column I am unable to find Laserjet 1018 printer driver on repeatedly updating driver by clicking windows update

But on performing the same method on my old laptop with an older version of Win 10, I was able to install this driver.
