Windows 10: my Windows 10 pc only sees external drive not Android phone nor Amazon Kindle. please help

For about a year now, I haven't been able to connect either of my Android phones or my Amazon Kindle using an USB cable. It still sees an external hard drive laptop in a drive case connected via an USB cable. Years ago, I had the problem and, under advice, purchased a specific USB cable from Amazon that allowed me to connect both the Kindle and phones. I was able to copy all files to my PC then delete all save for the most recent ones. When I wasn't able to connect Kindle and phones, I purchased another one of the special cable thinking the 1st had gone bad. Still no connectivity between t

I read that article below on killing the Anniversary Update edition of Windows 10 and just had to try it.

Plugged my Kindle Voyage into a USB 2.0 port and nothing happened - Windows just treated it as a normal USB drive, like always. Tried a couple of times, all good. Plugged it into a USB 3.0 port and it wasn't even recognized. Windows kept going like nothing happened.

Plugged it back into a USB 2.0 port and bam! Down she goes. *Laugh :laugh:

Unplugged the Kindle, reset the PC and Windows started up fine.

Amazon Kindle Application will download but not open.

Amazon has discontinued the Kindle app for PC. Amazon suggests using the web reader instead. This is likely why the app is not working.

 

Amazon Kindle for PC on Windows 10

I recently downloaded Amazon Kindle for PC version 1.25.50264.

Whenever I launch the app, it asks me to log in to Amazon, but the window just keeps flashing.

Not sure what to do. I have tried to

1: use an older version of Amazon Kindle

2: use different versions of Visual C++

I have not ever experienced this issue on any of my previous devices, not even while running Kindle under Wine in Ubuntu.
