NAS not appearing under Network in File Explorer - Automating the Fix

I have been having issues with my WD MyCloud NAS not showing up under Network on the left navigation pane of File Explorer. I am able to access the NAS by entering the host name (\\WDMYCLOUD) in the address bar in File Explorer. I was able to find a solution that fixes this and makes my NAS appear in Network as expected. The solution involved running Command Prompt as Admin, executing some commands, then restarting the computer.

What I would like to do is automate this process by creating a batch file that will:

    • Open Command Prompt as Admin
    • Automatically enter specific commands
    • Close Command Prompt
    • Restart the computer

The problem is I don't know anything about how to code batch files in order to accomplish this. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

    Missing NAS Disk access

I had the same problem. The fix for me was -

    open 'This PC'

in 'Network locations' right click and 'add network location'

in the location box type the explicit location you want (e.g. L: \\Node\Share , you have to know that it exists of course)

    * The network location was created and could be opened

    * The NAS appeared in 'Network'

    * The NAS appeared in the File Explorer navigation pane 'Network' section.

I hope it survives the next reboot.

    Regards,

    Tom

  3. NAS not mapping properly in Windows 10 after Windows updates

I just bought a Surface Pro 3 a week ago with Windows 10 Pro installed. When I turned it on and connected to my network for the first time, it saw my NAS properly as a network place that could be mapped to. After I installed all of the initial Windows
updates, the NAS (a WD MyCloud EX4) no longer appeared as a network place. It does show up in the Network under "storage", and I can open it in file explorer, browse the shares & files on the NAS, etc. but it does not appear under "Computers" as a network
place, so I cannot map to it. Also, I cannot select it as a target for my backup software. I know it is a Windows 10 issue, and not a NAS problem, because my Windows 7 laptop still sees the NAS just fine, as a network place, while Win10 does not anymore.

I have spoken to Microsoft Tech support twice, but after many attempts at a fix, it could not be resolved. They recognized that this is a known issue with Windows 10, and I really hope that they create a fix soon, because some of my key software that requires
the NAS (as a backup location, as a location for a database of photos, etc.) cannot function properly now.

I am using Windows 10 Pro, version 1511, OS build 10586.17.

If anyone has found a solution to this issue, including Microsoft themselves, I would really appreciate a reply here. Likewise, if I discover a fix, or find out a fix from WD, then I will update this thread. Thanks, all!

NAS not appearing under Network in File Explorer - Automating the Fix

    Hi there
I'm not an expert at these things but this should work.

    1) open a text file with notepad
    2) enter your commands line by line. one command per line
    3) save file with suffix .bat or .cmd
    4) use file explorer to get to the file.
    5) double click on it to see if it works (cmd / bat extensions should be interpreted by Windows as command type of stuff).
    6) if it works right mouse vlick against the file in file explorer
    7) set send to desktop (create short cut)
    8) now you've got a desktop application when you want to run it - just double click the desktop short cut you created.

Note - to run by default in Administrator mode I think in the properties when you create the desktop shortcut you can specify somewhere run as a different user / administrator. I haven't done this for ages but from memory this should woerk --you don't need complex javascript or whatever.

    Cheers

I had that problem. I called WD, they told me to go to Services and change Computer Browser and UPnP Device Host from manual to automatic. That fixed mine.
