Windows 10: Navigation pane stays on top in OneNote and Firefox after switching from tablet mode to...

Hi,


I'm working on a Surface Pro 4 and, since about 1 month, I have problems when exiting from tablet mode.

The panels/menu (don't know the right name :-() in OneNote and in Firefox opens :

• In OneNote, the problem occurs with the panel that usually opens in full screen mode to switch from one page to another. Whatever I am in full screen or not, when exiting from tablet mode the panel is shown and it's quite hard to hide it back.
• In FireFox, the same behavior occurs with several panels : The address panel, the security/info panel, the "..." menu from the address opens when exiting from tablet mode. Once again, the application don't know these panels/menus are opened and we can't close them : I have to close Firefox.

I guess this is a Windows 10 bug and not one for each of theses application, but I may be wrong.


Please note that I have the same problem, when I close the keyboard which makes Windows enter sleep mode.


Anyway, is there a workaround ?

How do I move the navigation pane to the right side of the window on OneNote 2016?

Bonus points if you can tell me how to get the old 2013 style with the section tabs at the top left and the pages listed on the right.

Hi Christine, please follow the troubleshooting steps:

Go to the Start Menu and press Settings

Choose System

On the left pane, select Tablet Mode

Turn on "Make Windows more touch-friendly" to enable Tablet Mode

Find "When this device automatically switches" menu and turn on "Don't ask me and always switch".

The concern you have encountered may be due to a corrupted file or a misconfigured setting. Windows 10's Tablet Mode provides a more touch-friendly experience by making all applications run at full screen and giving you a Start screen instead of a Start Menu.
If you have a 2-in-1 device, Windows 10 asks you if you want to enter tablet mode every time you convert your notebook into a slate. Kindly follow the steps below to sort out the concern:

• Click Settings from the Start menu
  
• Click System, then select Tablet Mode in the left panel. A tablet mode submenu appear
  
• Toggle "Make Windows more touch-friendly . . ." to on to enable Tablet mode. Or off to go to desktop mode
  
• Configure the "When this device automatically switches" menu to let Windows 10 to switch modes on your 2-in-1 prompt or not prompt you.
