Windows 10: Need help with reinstall following system error.

Hi out there.


The other day, I booted up my older Dell pc and received an error message, following the initial boot screen i.e. Dell logo, etc. the error told me to either press F1 to continue or F2 to view setup. Because I was able to see the initial boot screen, I'm assuming that my HDD is still working but, possibly in the process of failing. I downloaded Windows 10 on to a USB thumb drive and set my pc to boot from that drive. I am now into the "Windows Setup" screen where it asks "Where do you want to install Windows?"

This screen is show me: Drive 0 Partition 1 Total Size 39.0 MB Free Space 38.0 MB Type OEM Reserved

Drive 0 Unallocated Space Total Size 17.5 GB Free Space 17.5 GB

Drive 0 Partition 2 Total Size 718.6 GB Free Space 718.6 GB Primary

Drive 0 Unallocated Space Total Size 195.3 GB Free Space 195.6 GB Extended


When I select the Drive 0 Partition 2 as the drive to install window on, I get a message stating "We couldn't install Windows in the location you chose. Please check your media drive......." and "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. Th disk may fail soon. If other disks are available, install Windows to another location.


Therefore, I'm again assuming that the HDD has actually failed. However, if this is not the case, my question is: Is there anyway on this screen to move space form that Partition 2 to one of the other partitions showing "Unallocated Space".


The reason I ask this question is, under the box that contains the information of the Drive partitions as outlined above}. It gives various options, i.e. "Refresh Delete Format Load driver Extend" and also a "New" button. When New is selected, it brings up a box to "Select" box where you can choose a "Size" of, what appears to be, a new "Drive", and then "Apply" and "Cancel" buttons.


If anyone could provide me with any advice as to what I can do to get my pc up and running again with this Fresh Install, it would be greatly appreciated. OR, advise to either confirm or nullify my fears that the HDD has actually and completely failed, time to buy a new pc and move on.

The error code suggests the issue to be of Windows Updates. I suggest you to
Run the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool which fixes the Windows corruption error if there are any. Follow the steps:

• 
  Press Windows+X.
  
• 
  Click on Command Prompt (Admin).
  
• 
  Type the command DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  and hit Enter.

Receive errors messages followed by the following when using a created system image: 0x807800c5 and 0x80780081.

To address your concern, make sure that you have followed the right steps to
create a system image in Windows 10.

We also suggest that you run the following scans to repair missing or corrupted system files:

• System File Checker
  
• DISM or System Update Readiness tool
  
• Run the System File Checker once again.
