This is a repost from a W10 post now I have the same problem with W11...Yes, I know, right click on a folder, select "Properties" then the "Customize" tab, then click "Always apply..." However, it never works. For example, I'll try to organize my music files so each folder lists the details I want displayed then choose the "View" option I want sometimes Extra large icons, sometimes Details, but it never applies to all the subfolders. When dealing with hundreds of folders, it's a real pain to constantly readjust the folder details.*A person from the other post listed an exe. file but that hel

Libraries View set to a folder will not apply to all it's sub folders

So, as suggested by Brink, I started a new thread for this issue.

Brink you stated ''Just to note, that folders in a library share the same folder view as it was when last closed. This isn't the same as the folders in "This PC".

Yes, this is (supposed to be) true Need help with W11 "apply to all sub-folders". :).

Up to Windows 8.1 when you chose a view to folders in a specific library this view would apply to all sub folders of that library and stay if closed and re opened. This would work by individual library. *sarc

So, I chose my view, closed the library, re opened and looked at a sub file. Here is the result.

As you can see, the setting does not apply to the sub folders of that library. It will apply to all the main folders only. Each sub folder has to be set individually in view settings. This makes no sense and is really not practical. *Sad

Like I said, this is a step back from earlier versions of Windows. I've looked everywhere for a fix but I'm at a loss.

    Thanks for your help.

Libraries View set to a folder will not apply to all it's sub folders

I've always had better luck making those settings in C:\Users and my log-in name. Libraries appear to be merely shortcuts to the actual Folders.

Apply View Format to all Sub-folders

Browse to the folder you want to "Apply To Folders" to directly. For example, to update the OneDrive\Documents directory:

    1. Click on This PC.
    2. Click the C: drive.
    3. Click the Users folder.
    4. Click yourusername folder (whatever your username is).
    5. Click the OneDrive folder.
    6. Click the Documents folder.
In the path bar the path should be a fully qualified path (e.g., C:\Users\yourusername\OneDrive\Documents).

If you then click Options -> Change folder and search options the Apply to Folders button will be enabled.

Note: This assumes you've "Customized" the documents folder and all sub-folders (right click on Documents -> Properties -> Customize -> choose the style from the dropdown and make sure "Also apply this template to all subfolders" is checked -> click OK).

The "Apply to Folders" button doesn't seem to be enabled if you browse indirectly (e.g., through Libraries).
