Needing help with code 52 error for imaging devices

    Hi friends!
I've got the error code 52 in device manager for all 3 imaging devices (an internal and an external web cameras and an HP scanner). I was using Windows 8.1 on my Toshiba Satellite laptop and upgraded to Windows 10 Home edition a few months ago. All the time the imaging devices worked normally and I seemingly some Windows update resulted in to code 52 (Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device). Unfortunately returning to previous restore points did not help. I tried to remove the upper limit filter which I found in the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{6bdd1fc6-810f-11d0-bec7-08002be2092f}. As the result the yellow triangles and errors with code 52 disappeared and scanner could work, but both cameras still fail to work. So I restored the registry to the previous state. All the drivers are up to date.
Can anybody help to restore the functionality of my cameras? Thank you.

    :)

  3. Code 52 error for Imaging devices

    Dear Vinodh Kumar V,

Thank you so much for your advice. It helped! When I uninstalled my printer/scanner the functionality of my internal camera was immediately restored. As you recommended I reinstalled all the imaging devices including the printer/scanner with the Windows
8 compatibility. Now all the devices work. Thank you again.

    Best regards,

Try doing a Clean Install with Windows 10, vs an upgrade. It is not that old of a unit, so all hardware should be supported and have the appropriate drivers installed. There is no need to go mucking around in the registry for this issue.

Thank you very much for your reply, dear Bro67. I also thought that I'd have to clean reinstall the system. However another solution was found. When I uninstalled my printer/scanner the functionality of my internal camera was immediately restored. I reinstalled all the imaging devices including the printer/scanner with the Windows 8 compatibility. Now all the devices work.
    Best regards.

I have two Satellite C850D-st3nx1 and had no issues with both of them, when I was trying 10 out on them, I did go and pull the more up to date AMD GPU driver when I installed 10, since Microsoft's version was not as up to date, same thing with the Realtek audio.

With your unit being a Intel i3 and all Intel chipset, you may have to go over to intel.com and download their chip software utility to have the more up to date Intel drivers installed, if Toshiba does not show them on their support site. Most drivers for your unit would probably date out around Nov. last year, since that was around the time most companies would do a hard push to get new units or current units that were 10 capable out on the market as new or "Refurb".

A lot of the Refurb units that you get direct from the mfg, can be just OS update for any stock that was left over from a prior OS. Other is minor hardware defects, so do not let that scare you if you come across that term when looking at upgrading later on, since the i3's are slowly moving towards budget buyers.

    Dear Bro67,
Thank you very much for your advices. But it seems that the problem is not with the drivers, but with some incompatibility of my antivirus software with the Windows 10 System.
Unfortunately it appeared that the problem was not solved completely. I installed antivirus program Avast Pro, imaging devices were still working, then I created a restore point and then immediately lunched System restore to that created point. System reported that the restoring was made successfully. However the imaging devices were again marked with yellow triangles and error code 52 returned. It seems that Avast Pro prevents correct restoring of the system. I uninstalled printer/scanner and Avast Pro and restored to the restore point that was created before installing Avast Pro. Now again all the imaging devices including printer/scanner works fine. So apparently the Avast Pro software prevented successful System restore. Now the problem is to correct install Avast Pro that I bought two months ago and was successfully used until the code 52 appeared for imaging devices. I uninstalled it when I suspected that Avast Pro was the fault of unsuccessful returning to the saved restore point when I tried to get rid of code 52 before the first writing to this community.
Now I'm going to try to install Avast Free to check whether it also prevents normal System restore.

The Internet Security software companies are behind the curve right now, because of how many fixes that have been pushed out in the past three sets of updates.

You may want to check the Avast forum at their website, to see if others are having the same issues.

I only run Defender on my test box. No Firewalls, because I run my systems behind a Enterprise grade Gateway.

I'm planning to go to the Avast forum when I thoroughly check with Avast Home (free edition). Maybe Defender would be enough, but Avast Pro has a few useful features that I like, and I have already payed for it *Smile
    Thank you for your participation.

Finally it appeared that I can use Avast Pro without any problem if I don't use the Cleanup function. I found out that the Cleanup (a paid add-on for the Avast antivirus) makes some changes resulting in emergence of error code 52 for Imaging devices and prevents normal System restore operation.
