What accounts are listed by the command net user? It should list Guest - or does it use the German spelling?

Something has changed with using "Gast" instead of "Guest".

I dont know what I have done exactly, but it seems that your tips helped.
I can change it now again to disable.

    But now one question remains.
What or who is this "WmsControl"-account???

I dont have this entry on my second Desktop-PC.

    BTW: What I have done.
I unchecked "Benutzer müssen Benutzername und Kennwort eingeben" (Users have to enter user name and password) & confirmed with "Übernehmen" (Accept).
After a "Sign Out" & "Log In" I was able to turn off and save the password protection.. finally.. *Smile
I re-checked "Benutzer müssen Benutzername und Kennwort eingeben" (Users have to enter user name and password) and password protection setting now works again as it should.

    What a mess..

Did I mention that I dont like Windows???

    Thx, so far ..

Maybe that account something to do with Windows Multipoint Server - see Windows MultiPoint Server - Wikipedia Maybe you have this software installed? Best to create a new thread if you want to follow this up.

After beating my head on my desk to figure out why my machine wouldn't connect to network shares, I found out the reason.

For some reason, my network location changed to Public. I changed it back to Private and I could connect to my mapped drives and other network shares without the network authentication box popping up. Just FYI if anyone tried the other solutions and they didn't work like I did.

I'm using Windows 10 so I did the following:

Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Ethernet > clicked HomeGroup and let it connect to the private homegroup.

After that, all drives were accessible again!

I've found checking Homegroup status after updates to be a good quick'n'dirty troubleshooting technique for mysterious Win10 networking problems. For a long while there on the Redstone 1 series of Insider Previews, OS upgrades would change network status from Private to Public and toss me out of my local Homegroup. Good call!

I had the same problem and I was looking here because I forgot how to take care of this. And then I found it and it's very simple. Just go to your HomeGroup settings - Change advanced sharing settings - Turn off password protected sharing.

Yes, the Guest account is used somehow for sharing folders. I need password protected sharing off (Guest account on) to be able to connect my camera via WiFi.

After many months, I'm still having no luck connecting my laptop to the other two (desktop) PC shares.

I've also looked into the enabling the "Guest" account, but apparently there is no longer a Guest account in Windows 10 - is that correct?

    Mike.
