Network moving from Vista to Windows 10 - I'm Lost

My little home network is a Desktop wired to my router, a laptop with Windows 8.1 (let's call it Lap8), and a laptop with Vista Home Premium (LapVista). Part of my desktop has shared files under the Network Public folders which all computers can access. None of the computers can access any other files on any other computers. Perfect! I recently replaced my ailing desktop with a new one and now I have Windows 10. Explorer now shows me the image at the bottom.
USB30FD is a flash drive containing all the important files from my old desktop. Its being shown properly along with drives C and D, but why is it listed again separately below that. This makes no sense.
COMPUTER appears to be a mirror of the structure of Lap8 that should not be on the network and I can access its files from the desktop. I don't want this.
GRADYLAND-HQ appears to be a mirror of the files on the desktop which should not be on the network and I can access its files from Lap8. I don't want this.
JOHN-PC appears to be exactly the files on the desktop that I want to share with Lap8 and LapVista. I want this.
LapVista shows all three of these sub-Networks? but it can't access COMPUTER at all and can't see the folder John on GRADYLAND-HQ where the local files are that Lap8 can see. LapVista can read all of JOHN-PC as intended.

I don't know what I'm expecting but some general advice would be help along with some direction as to where I might get some basic networking info that will enable me to understand what's going on here. I'm ready to walk my flash drive around the house as my network.

    :)

    Hi,

Are both computers connected to the same network? You can simply copy stuff from the folders on the Vista Machine to corresponding Public folders on the Win 10 machine over the network.

Are you using the same account on Vista as you are on Windows 10? Install OneDrive app for Vista. Drop the files into OneDrive then access from Windows 10.

You might also copy/paste the files on a DVD then install to Windows 10 folders.

If you have an external harddrive, move the files from Windows Vista. Access the files from Windows 10.
