Windows 10: Network & Sharing

Network and Sharing on my 1803 system is not working. I have two home systems and only one can share files. The other will connect to my router and internet but can not discover the other system. I worked two hours online with Microsoft tech support and they could never find or fix the problem. When file sharing is set on it is off the next time I look. Discovery won't come on. Tech suggestion was to do a clean install. This would be impossible since I have 44 application installed and dozens of updates. Please help. This affects my personal home business.


When I try to setup a new network connection the system starts a search for a network and warns me this should take about 90 seconds. It never finishes the search and responds with a blank window.


When I go to "Advanced Sharing Options" and change the option to enable file sharing and then close the window,...the change never takes affect. When I re-open the window the option is back to "Disable" file sharing.


When I run the "System File checker" it takes 10 minutes and never finds any problem with system files.


My other system,...which is at the same 1803 level with all updates installed seems to work fine. It can see the other system and it can actually access and change any or all files on the broken system. However on my Main system it sees every device in my house on the network but it will not discover the 2nd PC.


Please help.

Cannot access shared network drive

I could scream! so much time wasted on this stupid error, as if time is not precious enough!
It probably would work fine if I could see the other computer! But I cannot see the other computer!

Sharing folders over network - access denied

To troubleshoot your concern with sharing files over the network using your Windows 10 device, we suggest that you run the Shared folders troubleshooter and check if it helps. Kindly refer to the steps below:

• Type in Troubleshooting in the search box and press

• Click View all.
• Click Shared Folders.
