Windows 10: Network sign in requires manual adapter restart or cable plug in plug out.

Hi, I am using private dormitory wired network which is set up as described here which uses login and password authentication. The problem is that when the PC restarts, it does not connect to network automatically and a manual adapter restart via control panel or cable plug in plug out is required.The problem persists both with direct cable connection and TP-Link ethernet adapter.Have tried steps from this question, but it did not help.I am using Windows 10 Pro version 22H2.Thank you in advance for your help.

As you have mentioned, the network cable is working fine with other system. The issue might be due to the outdated drivers or due to the incompatible drivers.

I suggest you to follow the steps below to update the drivers and check if it helps.

  Type Device Manager in the search bar, and select
  Device Manager from the list.

  In Device Manager, expand Network adapters
  option.
  
• 
  Right click on the network adapter name and click on
  Update Driver Software.
  
• 
  Follow the on-screen instructions.
  
• 
  Restart the system after update is done.

"Network cable unplugged" - but it is plugged in..


Hoping some of the Windows ninjas can help.

Running Windows 10 Pro on a Dell XPS 8500 desktop/tower. Hard wired Ethernet from Dlink router to PC.

Had been working great for months. But all of a sudden (yesterday) - getting this message from "Net Connections." Ethernet, network cable unplugged (Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller). It's strange because it had been working. The PC has WIFI so it's connecting that way.

Here's what I tried so far:

1. Plugged in Ethernet directly from cable modem. Same error.
2. Connected another device to router. It works.

Seems like it's some kind of issue with PC itself - either hardware failure or driver corruption ? Would there be a problem with deleting the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller in the Control Panel>Network and Internet > Network Connections - restarting and see if that fixes the issue.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you for continuing to follow up with me on this issue. I have been pretty busy, and using other pc s to get my work done, so I didn't try this fix until today.

I followed the steps of "Method 1"- it resolved the problem for
that period of operation (after the re-start); but after shutting down and rebooting, the problem returned, exactly as before. The troubleshooter resets the network adapter, but also lists as a problem, "A network cable is not properly plugged in or
may be broken."

Just to re-state the problem: when I start up this laptop, half or two-thirds of the time, it cannot connect to my wi-fi (at close range, where other devices connect without any difficulty) without re-setting the network adapter... including via the methods
you suggested: by uninstalling and reinstalling the driver software.

Thanks for trying to help me. Does this sound like a hardware problem?
