Windows 10: Networking computers that are running different versions of Windows

Dear all,
Can anyone advise me on a mixed network issue.
I have several PCs at home as well as music streaming devices such as Pure Sensia and Freecom MusicPal.
The PCs run a mix of Windows 7 HP and Ultimate all 64bit.
I use Serviio to share music to the streaming devices and PCs.
The PCs all use password protected network shares, and I selectively share certain folders from different PCs to enable both simple file sharing and backup which are simple script driven processes.
All has been working reliably for years until (Dum-Dum-Dum!) Windows 10...
A new laptop arrives with Windows 10 preinstalled.
I've got it up and running but cannot work out how to add Microsoft cloud accounts, such as those directly linked to OneDrive, onto the windows 7 PCs to enable password protected sharing to and from this new laptop.
The accounts have the same usernames on each flavour of windows PC, but the windows 10 version also has an email.
Can anyone advise me on how to work round this without using only local accounts on the windows 10 laptop.

To assist you better, please provide few details.

1) Are you trying to link your computer to the same OneDrive location?

2) Are you trying the setup homegroup network, among the computers?

I like to inform you that; you can use/share the files from OneDrive cloud location to all the computer. To do so, you need to use the same Microsoft account on all the computer, which you have used for OneDrive.

You may also setup homegroup network among the computer, to share the files among the computers.

Your Win 10 device using an email address tells me that your logon to that PC is via a Microsoft account rather than an account which is local to your machine. I would say this is the problem. With a Microsoft account it seems to be all or nothing. You either use a Microsoft account on all devices or you do not.

To change your account on the Win 10 PC open Control panel, select User Accounts, User Accounts again, then select Make changes to my account in PC settings. On that screen select to change your account to a local account. Follow the wizard to enter your logon info again and when finished you will be signed out of your Microsoft account and be back at the Windows logon screen. Enter your new password to log in to Windows and your new local account.

Things should work must better now.

Many thanks for the response. I'm trying to resolve the issue of using an account on the Windows 10 system that is a "Cloud" Microsoft account with it's matching Windows 7 account.

If I set up the Windows 10 account as a local account, I lose all the integration that Windows 10 is supposed to offer.
The problem is that I cannot work out how to create two accounts for which the same user names and passwords apply.
For example if on the Windows 7 PC I have User-One Password "User", and on the Windows 10 PC I have User-One L: User-One@outlook.com Password "User", I cannot share a folder because the Windows 7 PC does not recognise the same user name on the Windows 10 PC.
How do I create the L: mailto:User-One@outlook.com user on the Windows 7 PC so I can share to this user?

 

I do not think you can and that is the problem. The best way is to create another or second account on the Win 10 PC that is a local account. Use this account when you need to share files etc. Logon on the Microsoft account for your cloud etc. I know that is cumbersome and not what you want to hear but at the present I believe you are stuck with it. I finally gave up and went back to just local accounts on everything as no matter what I tried I could not get a mix of local and Microsoft accounts to play nicely together.

Thanks Mr. Softy! There are reports of this all over the Net but it doesn't matter what users want, you just have to settle for what Big Tech dishes out!

Many thanks for the feedback. I find it astonishingly incompetent of Microsoft to create a new OS that will not network to previous versions of the OS!
I do not think I can move away from the Microsoft accounts, as I believe that Family safety on Windows 10 requires this kind of account. Please anyone let me know if that is not the case.
Creating new Local accounts is incredibly clunky, and will lead to what is best described as a management nightmare for me that I could well do without.
I started the process of Windows 10 migration with an open mind, assuming that the largely rabid scaremongering was just that, however I'm rapidly being moved into the Windows 10 hating camp by this kind if incompetence.
Does anybody know if Microsoft are aware, or even care about this mess they've created?
I know the routes open to home users, i.e. "(Don't) Answer Desk" have not the slightest idea how to resolve, and will not raise any kind of second level ticket with Microsoft.
