New 1600MHz RAM runs at 800MHz

I replaced my old 800MHz 2x4GB RAM with 2 new 8GB RAM modules that work at 1600MHz.
My motherboard supports these higher speeds and the BIOS also indicated 1600MHz as the supported speed.

However, when logged in, Windows shows the memory working at 800MHz.

I attach the CPUID/CPU-Z report and screenshots.
Note that slots #3 and #4 are empty. I did not mix modules.

How can I get the full speed of my RAM modules?

    :)

  2. Ram shows only 3.20 usable, Bios correctly shows 8GB. Help!

    Hello,

Today I installed 4GB RAM (I had 4GB already) to my laptop for some extra performance. However Windows only shows 3.20 GB usable instead of 8.0GB. I checked in BIOS is shows 8GB.

I used cpu-z, it correctly detected RAM on both slot, but it shows 800Mhz instead of 1600Mhz.

I am using Windows 10 64bit on Lenovo G505s. Can anybody advise me to correct this problem?!

    Many Thanks!

  3. BSOD caused by hal.dll, ntoskrnl.exe

A 4GB stick was added to the remaining slot resulting to a total of 8GB RAM. Its a Ramaxel 4GB RAM, DDR3 and 1600MHz. The other is from a different manufacturer, 4GB RAM, DDR3 and 1600MHz.

I believe you should install the other stick to the 1st slot and the other to the third one.

It's 800Mhz doubled that gives you 1600, always shows 800 in CPUz you have to multiply it by 2 to get the effective speed.

OK, I don't remember it being 400MHz with my 800MHz DIMMs.
So do I need to actually move one module to Slot #3?

It will give you the correct value in the Post.
As your memory is being identified as dual channel, you don't need to to move anything. Some motherboards such as ASUS need the ram in 1 and 3 or 2 and 4 for dual channel to work, wrong slot and it only works as single channel.

CPU-Z is correct the clock speed is 800 MHz.
The modules are DDR (Double Data Rate) in this case version 3, hence DDR3.
So the data rate is 1600.
    Nothing wrong, all is well.

Look at your MOBO manual to make sure they are in the correct slots for Dual Channel operation. That varies with manufacturer.

You should always install dual channel memory in alternate slots, so A1 then B1 or A2 then B2.

    Is that so?
This implies they have to be in order.

I found this in the mobo manual (pp16):

New 1600MHz RAM runs at 800MHz [IMG]

So apparently, IIUC, I need to split them.

Can't argue with the manual, nothing to loose by doing it.

Most people don't have motherboards that support quad channel memory. (Dual channel is much more common.)

I'm a little surprised that your X79 board offers so much flexibility for dual and 3 channel memory configurations, but that's cool.

(I have two quad channel desktops. Ones is an X79 system like yours, and the other is an X99 system. I run quad memory in both, even though its advantage is probably only detectable in synthetic benchmarks.)

So now I have 2x8GB-1600MHz installed, 2 empty slots and 2x4GB-800Mhz extra sticks.
What's the best configuration to install the spare sticks?
