Windows 10: New Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 fastest, privacy-first consumer DNS service

Depending on where you are in the world, if speed is important, you can look for a server here.
But what Cloudflare's "selling" point is: PRIVACY*Wink

 

Another thing that is in cloudflare's favor is it delivers so much of the internet these days, this page is 40% being delivered from cloudflare and every query to load it goes through cloudflare before it hits our server, if it can lookup pages it's serving from its own servers faster then there will be an improvement in speed for a lot of the internet.

 

If anyone is having problems after setting it up, you might want to read the comments section in Discus at the bottom of the original blog post.
Maybe someone posted something and the mod there already answered.

 

You need to add them manually. 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1

 

They were already there in mine.

 

That's the answer! Those DNS servers are the fastest for my UK TalkTalk connection now I've added them manually to the Gibson DNS Benchmark.

Does Cloudfare have IPv6 settings?

 

For IPv4: Preferred 1.1.1.1, Alternative 1.0.0.1
For IPv6: Preferred 2606:4700:4700::1111, Alternative 2606:4700:4700::1001

 

Tip You can change DNS servers fast and easy using elevated PowerShell.

Following command would change IPv4 servers to Cloudflare on wired NIC:

Set-DNSClientServerAddress Ethernet –ServerAddresses (“1.1.1.1”,”1.0.0.1”)

To change IPv6 DNS servers:

Set-DNSClientServerAddress Ethernet –ServerAddresses (“2606:4700:4700::1111”,”2606:4700:4700::1001”)

Change the connection name Ethernet to WiFi if you want to set wireless NIC DNS servers. Notice that Ethernet and WiFi are default names; if you have renamed them, change it accordingly in above sample commands:





If the name contains spaces, like my Hyper-V external switches do, set name in single quotes:

Set-DNSClientServerAddress 'My External Wireless Virtual NIC' –ServerAddresses (“1.1.1.1”,”1.0.0.1”)

 

Two questions:

1) Is Cloudflare likely to adhere to their announced privacy policies?
2) How much would those policies actually improve privacy?

 

I have been using OpenDNS for years. I tried Google DNS but it is overrated and slower. Really got tired of all the so called fixes for slow downloads and streaming just use Google DNS. I am still hesitant to try Cloudflare. Does it display an ad ridden page for a false address.

i saw this article on virtualcustoms via feedmonkey and decided to check it out. after reading i decided to test the dns service, ans all i can say is fast would be an extreme understatement. so fae very happy with it's performance.

Hey @Kari, I have everything,including my Fritz! Box set to Cloudflare now, except my vEthernet(virtual switch).
When I set my virtual switch, everything was ok, including internet access in my VMs.

But.... I couldn't access my Fritz! Box then. I had to set the that one back to auto resolve*Sad
