Windows 10: New double blue arrows for shortcut overlay?

I believe that these blue arrows means the file is compressed - certainly toggling on and off the "compressed" flag adds and removes them for me on 10565 for documents.

The shortcut however keeps the blue arrows (or lack thereof) based on the compression state of the target when the shortcut was created. Toggling the compression flag makes no difference on the shortcut.

Ah, yep. It means that it's a compressed file. I see the same when I compress a file/folder. Good catch Halasz.

It looks like Microsoft changed this since it used to have blue text for the file when compressed.

 

So...short of uncompressing all my drives, how do I replace this overlay with something blank or delete it altogether?

I am trying to locate that icon group in "imageres.dll" using RESOURCE HACKER. Icon 226 is something entirely different and, unfortunately, there is no way to SEE the icons but one by one. How did you create the ICON INDEX IMAGE (above)?
Or, do you have any ideas about how I could delete that icon overlay completely...or any other ideas?

Currently (in Build 10576), the "Content" Layout View, and any sizes BETWEEN Small icons and Medium icons, do NOT show the overlay. You can access those intermediate sizes, by using a mouse and Control+Scrolling. Then, once you find a view you like, you can go to Folder Options, select the View tab, and click "Apply to Folders" to apply it to all folders of that type. Good luck.

Be warned that I expect this workaround to not work, once they apply the overlay to all views and view sizes *Smile

 

Annoying double arrows every where. Just updated to the latest build and this is what comes out of that. The blue texts were just fine, seems like it's going to take a few days to get used to this new Blue Compression arrows. *Smile

 

in icon workshop the icon number is 226. If u use Resource Hacker the number is in icon group-->1305. and replace them

 

Actually, in the end, I uncompressed all my drives. Pros: Access is a little quicker. Double arrow compression icons go away. Cons: More drive space needed.

Funnily enough when I tested on my system access was a little slower after decompressing Any useful scenario for NTFS compression? - Page 2 - Windows 10 Forums (not that it made a huge difference either way though)

That is for shortcut arrows not the double arrows indicating compression being discussed here though...
