Windows 10: New integrated Gmail experience in G Suite across the web and Android

Quick launch summary

We recently announced a new integrated workspace that brings your favorite G Suite apps closer together. Weâre now rolling out this workspace to Gmail on the web and Android. Stay tuned to the G Suite Updates blog for information on the timing of the launch to iOS.

Gmail will now feature four distinct components:

Mail, which has not changed and is the same Gmail experience users know and love.

Chat, which allows users to message individuals and small groups directly.

Rooms, which are spaces that include shared chat, files, and tasks to help groups more easily work on projects.

Meet, which features upcoming meetings that you can view and join.

With this launch, youâll also be able to open and co-edit a document with your team without leaving Gmail. This will make it easier for you to collaborate directly within the context of where youâre doing your work at that moment.

In addition, weâve introduced several new tools to help you prioritize and stay focused. You can now:

Assign group tasks.

Get notified about task updates in rooms.

Pin important rooms so theyâre easier to find and access.

Set your availability to âDo not disturb."

Better protect your time with status notices in Chat like âOut of office.â

See files shared in a room.

See integrated search results and toggle between Email and Chat results on the web.

Start a new meeting or see your upcoming meetings under âMeetâ on the web.

We hope this new integrated experience in Gmail helps you stay focused, be productive, and collaborate more effectivelyâno matter what your workspace looks like.

Getting started

Admins: These features will launch to all domains with Chat preferred enabled. Chat preferred can be enabled at the organizational unit (OU) or domain level. We recommend migrating your organization all at once to avoid any disruption.

Note, certain features included in this launch require specific services to be enabled in the Admin console. Visit the Help Center for more information about ensuring you have these services properly configured.

End users: Visit the Help Center to learn more about turning Chat in Gmail and Meet in Gmail on or off.

Rollout pace

Rapid Release domains: Gradual rollout to users (up to 15 days for full feature visibility) starting on August 12, 2020

Scheduled Release domains: Gradual rollout to users (up to 15 days for full feature visibility) starting on September 1, 2020

New Gmail compose formatting and download options for G Suite users

What’s changing

We're adding three new features to Gmail:

Shortcut to undo/redo in the compose window

Shortcut to strikethrough text

Ability to download messages as .EML files in rfc822 format from Gmail on the web

Who’s impacted

End users

Why you’d use it

Undo/Redo: If you need to undo an action, like if you accidentally delete the content of your draft of an email, you can do so straight from the compose view. Anytime you have undo, you want to also have the option of redo, so we’ve added that as well.

Strikethrough: Strikethrough is a visual cue that something has been completed or can be used as an edit suggestion. We’ve heard from you that this functionality is critical to quickly and efficiently write emails, especially when you want to visually indicate a change in language.

Download as .EML: This format is recognized by other email clients, allowing you to view the Gmail content along with attachments within these clients. In addition, with this functionality users can now add these downloaded messages as attachments in their emails.

How to get started

Admins: No action necessary.

End users - new compose formatting: Click on the formatting menu in the Gmail compose window.

End users - new download format: Open the overflow (three dot) menu and select “Download message.”

Gmail vs G Suite

I've been using Gmail forever but now I'm looking at G Suite so that I can use my own domain name in my email. I've looked around and Google doesn't offer the option to use your own domain name if you don't sign up for a G Suite subscription.

Except for the fact that G Suite cost money every month, is there any other negatives with having a business Google account (G Suite) vs a personal Google account (free Gmail)? Can I use and login to all the regular Google Services such as YouTube, Google Keep, Google Play etc. Will the services behave differently in G Suite as it thinks I'm a business user?

If anyone has some experience in this it would be nice to hear from you.
