Windows 10: New Laptop gets error 0x800f0986 when downloading update kb4550945

Hello...I have tried ALL the suggested/posted troubleshooting methods including: Windows update reset tool

that you run as admin which has a TON of cool diag features. There are no errors that pop up with corruption

or indexing type errors. This HP laptop is two months old with a 500gb SS drive. Every time I try and run the

KB4550945 update I get error 0x800f0986. Further more when I run the troubleshooter pointing at windows

updates. It finds no problem or cannot identify a problem. The last time I had an issue like this, a few years ago

with another PC and windows 7...it turned out to be some previous updates that needed to be downloaded first.

I am running a very basic free AVAST a/v software. Same errors with or without AVAST in the loop so this

is not the problem. Can we please get to the bottom of this ? Please and thanks ! 5/2/2020

KB4551762 update fails repeatedly, gives Error 0x800f0986

I am running Windows 10 Pro, 1909, x64 and all other updates have installed successfully except KB4551762. I was unable to find any other posts similar to my problem. The actions I have done so far are:
- Ran Troubleshooter for Windows updates....no problem found.
- Manually downloaded/installed KB4551762 with same results...failed with Error 0x800f0986.
- Restarted into Safe Mode but the Windows Updates didn't seem to work, just got a blank screen with Windows updates at top.
- Checked Device Manager for any problems but nothing showed bad.
- Checked my disk space, more than 100GB free space.
At this point I need some help so any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks in advance.

 

Update error - (KB4551762) -Error 0x800f0986

My PC is currently having problem with updating system

it keeps showing messages underneath.

'Device missing important security and quality fixes'

2020-03 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1903 for x64-based Systems (KB4551762) -Error 0x800f0986

What should I try since even reset and formatting the system cannot be done for errors.

Major update 20H1 (Windows 10 v2004) due in a few weeks. I wouldn't worry about this one, for the time being.
