  1. New laptop: most advanced power options are missing, won't go into sleep mode, can't...

I recently purchased a new laptop, (i7-10750h, gtx-1650ti) but when I tried to set advanced power options, most of them were gone. All I have control over is: desktop background settings, sleep (missing the "allow wake timers" option), display, and battery (laptops only). Lots of other settings are either hidden or disabled/removed.

In addition to the missing allow wake timers settings, which I want to keep disabled, I am also missing: hard disk (choose when to turn them off for inactivity), wireless adapter settings (power saving mode), hybrid sleep enabled or disabled, USB selective suspend, javascript timer frequency (whatever that is), link state power management, multimedia settings, and most importantly the processor power management (minumum/maximum state, active/passive cooling).

Does anyone know how to get those settings back? My laptop also won't go into sleep mode which is strange. That annoys me a lot. Even manually doing it just turns off the screen and it stays fully on, connected to wifi, etc.

My older desktop (i7-9700k, gtx-1660) has all of the settings except the battery one, obviously. I noticed, however that the hybrid sleep mode option is gone on there too. What's up with that? I disabled fast startup and hibernate on both computers, but it still has the option in power settings "hibernate after xx minutes"....wtf? I set it to never, but eventually it changes itself to a weirdly high random number and I set it back to never. Occasionally, the power options will even reset back to default settings.

  2. Laptop won' t shutdown (or restart) and sleep [takes forever]

    The situation:

    • When shutting down, the laptop proceeds as normal until the screen turns off.
    • After the screen turns off, it takes a while for the battery LED to go off.
    • After that the power led remains on and it looks like the laptop is stuck in this state forever.
    • When I try to get my laptop to sleep, something similar happens; the power led remains on, the battery led turns off and the laptop appears to be stuck in this state.
    My laptop is: Asus FX553VD.

    What I've tried:

    • I have tried to troubleshoot power management and power options.
    • Tried clean boot.
    • Updated the BIOS.
    • Reinstalled windows and tried shutdown and sleep (without installing the drivers and stuff), however that didn't work either.

    Additional Info:

    • I have multiple operating systems installed in my laptop, however this problem persists on windows only (the OSes are installed on different drives).
    • The disk usage is abnormally high.
    • There are spikes in CPU usage that kick up the fan really fast while idle.

Please suggest other ideas as to what I should do?

[It appears that the only option I have left is to reinstall everything]

sleep mode and power options not working on Windows 10

    Hi,

Thank you for contacting Microsoft Forums.

For issues with sleep mode and power options follow the steps provided below.

Run the Power troubleshooter and check.

Follow the steps to run the troubleshooter:

    • Open Control Panel.
    • Type Troubleshooting in search and click
      Troubleshooting.
    • Now type Power in the search option.
    • Click on Power troubleshooter to run.

I would suggest you to try updating the Display driver and check if the issue persists. If you already have all the latest drivers from Windows updates, then I would suggest you to visit the computer manufacturer's website, download and install the latest
drivers in compatibility mode and check.

    Hope this helps.
