You're welcome Gary. Don't forget to test the Recovery disk, by booting to it, after you have updated it, to make sure it works before it's too late*Eek.

I did not have v5 when I bought v6. It cost me $55.00 , it is worth every Penney of it.

I missed that for some reason. Thanks for the warning!

I tested the Macrium V6 to create a 10159 image. It took a little over than a minute to complete the image backup.

Yeah I'm on 6 now too, and it's about 45 seconds to a minute faster.

Not bad!! The best time I ever managed on Macrium ver 5 was with 1 minute 47 seconds for my Windows 8.1 install. Windows 10 usually takes about 2 minutes 25 seconds and Windows 7 about 3 minutes 17 seconds. Those times are based on creating an image from an SSD to a SATA III HDD.

Yeah, that 1min+ is also from SSD to HDD. I will try SSD to SSD and see. *Smile

Sorry I lied. That was from SSD to SSD. Woooops! *Redface

Never tried imaging from SSD to SSD, as I have Windows installs on all of them. Also, all my SSDs are older 128 GB models, which wouldn't hold all the images I have saved. *Biggrin

Do I have to update the recovery disk as well?

  11. The release notes say something about a change to the WinPE screen resolution -- so you might want to update the rescue disk.

Since mine is on USB, I just routinely update it with each MR update, that way both the hard disk and USB boot to the same version.

Thanks for the heads up Cliff! Just ran the update on my W8.1 install and will do so on my W7 install later.

If you're satisfied with the resolution of the recovery disk, no. In version 6 free(just like the paid) you can also add a boot menu option and it is automatically updated.

As usual LittleJay you're very welcome*Smile

    Hi there

I know a lot of people have been quite happy with Free Macrium (and it's certainly better than nothing) --however I get the feeling that companies who offer the Freebies are gradually trying to wean people off those and make them "Go Pro" --i.e PAY.

V6 has TWO big bugbears AFAIK -- No more Linux ISO's so you need to create a Winpe bootable system for stand alone restores -- a bit of a bugbear and takes ages to boot if you use it on older hardware and it makes serious use of VSS which means you need to have quite a bit of SPARE SPACE on the drive you are imaging or cloning.

I've always gone for paid software since backup and recovery for me is essential (and considering the time I've saved too) so I use Acronis. There isn't any issue with having to use a WINPE system (although you can optionally create one).

The Linux ISO (also works from a USB stick ) boots up almost instantly and you are ready to go. Acronis also lets you MOUNT backed up images and browse it just like another HDD if you just need to restore a file or two.

Obviously Free Macrium is far far better than NONE but V6 is a version too far IMO.

    Cheers
