I just registered specifically to ask these two questions, although I'm sure I'm going to have many, many more as time passes...

I just got the Win10 upgrade; I had it previously when it first became available but went back to 7 when I woke up one morning and all my documents and photos had disappeared *Shock

I figure by now any bugs would have been ironed out, so I downloaded it again before I have to pay for it (and when support for 7 runs out). It still has some hiccups, but two things so far that I'd like to get advice on.

First, I have Opera as a separate browser. Whenever I try to open that after the W10 upgrade, my screen goes black and won't respond at all, forcing me to manually restart my laptop. It simply will not let me open it at all.

Second, I'm on Facebook frequently; before the upgrade, I could copy the URL from an article I want to share, past it into my comment box, and it would show the URL plus a preview of the article complete with images. After the upgrade, I do the same thing but now it only shows the highlighted URL and does not include the preview. Personally, I click on news stories because the previews catch my eye, and URL only links turn me off.

Any advice regarding these would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    :)

Oh ok. I was checking on Opera Mobile not Mini. Probably the Opera Mini does not support facebook places. Facebook however launched a new java app compatible to s40, you want to try that out.

RE first question: Does the same happen when using Edge or IE11? Yes, IE11 is still available, click Start and scroll down to W then Windows Accessories.
RE second question: A lot of display items have changed with Win10, most only minor but still usable if giving it a try. Have you checked with Opera for an update? Have you checked with Opera's forum for others have the problem? Apparently the folks visiting here either don't use Opera or haven't seen the question yet [volunteering to help others does take time]. It's possible Opera hasn't caught up yet with all the changes Win10 has made.

To be honest, I don't know, I've never used Edge. I've always used IE/Chrome/Firefox/Opera for browsers, and I don't understand why Win10 includes Edge as a separate or standalone browser. Seems to me to be redundant. I've clicked on Internet Explorer properties and I don't see where it tells me what version it is.

So far, I'm not impressed with Win10. Mostly for the same reasons I dumped it shortly after it first came out. Pages take far too long to load, frequent freezing and slow response time (literally 5 - 10 seconds from the time I press a button to when something actually happens), and I'm constantly getting "so and so dot com has stopped responding due to a long running script" from almost every page I frequent. I would have thought that Microsoft would have worked out most if not all of the bugs that plagued it when it was initially released.

Does anyone know how long Microsoft will be offering support for windows 8? Because I'm fairly certain I'm going to get rid of Win10 again. There are just too many little turn offs about it to make me want to keep it. I'm not going to revert back to Win7 for only three weeks and lose support, I might as well get 8 and see how that goes.

gunnerk19, if you installed Opera before upgrading to Windows 10 but not afterwards, that is probably your problem. Some programs malfunction after an in-place upgrade to Windows 10. If that is the case, surf here, download the installer, and run it:

I had Opera before Windows 10 and it worked fine. I followed the link that BBS supplied above and installed it, but the screen went black apparently somewhere during the install. My screen goes completely black, the only way I can see anything is to hover my cursor over the bottom left of the screen where the "Windows" start icon would be, then it shows the taskbar. I can hover over items on the taskbar and the thumbnail for that screen will open up above it, but when I go to expand those the screen goes back to black and absolutely nothing happens.

I've tried to open Opera three times and each time it's blacked out and I've had to Hard Restart my computer.

My wife has W10 on her laptop and Opera works fine on hers. I don't get it.

Edit: I also tried to download Vivaldi as a browser, which was purported to work with Win10, but I try to open the file and get a popup saying the app was not compatible with this computer or some such nonsense. I'm not entirely sure of the wording since I've since deleted the Vivaldi files. The only browser that seems to work other than Edge is IE.

Seems to me that Microsoft is trying to force users to employ Microsoft only browsers in Win10. Not entirely sure I like that.

I use Opera and Chrome every day on my windows 10, and as you mention your wife has no problem on her computer..

so.. "Seems to me that Microsoft is trying to force users to employ Microsoft only browsers in Win10. Not entirely sure I like that." I don't think that statement is true is it?

Sorry I haven't got a fix for you, but have you considered a clean install instead of an upgraded W 7 ?

As for this part of your post, that situation can happen when trying to install a 64-bit version of a program on a 32-bit version of the OS/Operating System. The 64-bit version of Windows can run 32-bit software but not the other way around. Right-click the Start button and click System to check yours, look at the System type line. Or it's possible the download was not identified correctly and could have been for an older version of Windows. I've been checking some older programs on disc and discarding those that have no hope of running on Win10.
