  1. NEW PC Setup

    Hi All

Newer Gaming PC from Asus arriving by Monday, getting things in order

So far got all the drivers for the external hardware
Plan on transferring sorta new ssd to the new machine, will be used as boot drive
First gonna do system image of current hard drive in the system possibly after transferring the Windows 10 Pro version (Comes with Windows 10 Home) , backup the drivers to flash drive, possibly update the uefi bios if needed, shows on Asus site G11CD current bios released on 7/24/2017 to improve system stability, maybe will need that not sure
Transfer Windows 10 Pro from old system to new, was bought for this system via the $99.00 upgrade option thru Microsoft store, so think I can legally transfer that, Old PC will get possibly later on a Spare Windows 7 Retail license or perhaps 10 Home if I can still use Windows 7 Key to do that

Is there anything I forgot or should be aware of? Going from AMD FX Based system to Intel I7 7700 based system with Nvidia graphics

    :)

  2. Setup a new PC by accidentally create new Microsoft/Admin Account instead of using existing MS/Admin account. How can I remove the new one and add back the existing one?

    Hi Darleen Pan,

    Thanks for the detail instructions.

Since this a new computer and I have not done anything to it, I was able to just reset the computer back to the original state (out of the factory). Then I setup the computer from the beginning again with my existing microsoft account. Everything seems good
    now.

Thanks again. I will sure keep this information for my future reference in case I run into the similar situation.

  3. Setup a new PC by accidentally create new Microsoft/Admin Account instead of using existing MS/Admin account. How can I remove the new one and add back the existing one?

    Hi Kenneth,

To be able to use your existing Microsoft account as your PC login credentials, the first thing that needs to be done is to create a new administrator account. Follow these steps to do so:

    • Open the Settings app and then click on Accounts.
    • Click on Other people and then click on Add someone else to this PC.
    • Under the Local Users and Groups (Local), right click on Users folder and then choose New User.

    • Fill up the form and then click on Create button. Make sure that you'll take note of the password that you'll set for the user account.
      NEW PC Setup [IMG]
    • Close the window and then open the Settings app.
    • Click on Account and then click on Other peaople.
    • Look for the newly created user account, click on it and then click on Change account type.
      NEW PC Setup [IMG]
    • Change the account type to Administrator and then click on OK button.

Follow these steps to be able to associate your existing Microsoft account to your new PC:

    • Log out from the account you are currently using and then sign into the PC using the newly created user account.
    • Open Settings, click on Accounts and then under Your info, click on Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.
    • Input the information of your existing Microsoft account.

Follow these steps to remove a user account on your PC:

    • Open the Settings app.
    • Click on Accounts and then chose Other people.
    • Click on the user account that you wish to remove and then click on Remove button.

Let us know if further assistance is needed.

My advice is; since you're changing CPU vendors.....I would strongly advise doing a clean install. Doing a system image/clone of an AMD setup to an Intel setup requires a clean install. If not you're going to run into all kinds of trouble later on down the road.

There's no need to clean install.. Chipset drivers come standard within Win 10.

You can transfer the Pro licence with an MSA. I think you are good to go..

  6. Was leaning towards Clean install as don't want any issues done the road, I know chipset drivers come standard with 10 Now, but since changing CPU platforms sorta thinking Clean install maybe best, but will see

Don't think the License was OEM, as I paid for the Pro Upgrade thru the Microsoft App store for $105.00 with taxes, But no big deal if I can't transfer the Pro license I guess. Just getting things in order

Maricum Reflect Imaging software, imaged before, but never restored an image as yet as haven't had the need, but I do like to have a backup on external drive just in case something happens that I can't recover from

as for latest drivers I just back those up just in case also something happens, video driver is one I update the most, other drivers for Ethernet and sound and stuff only update if I have a need to

Bios I may not mess with, unless I see a need to at this point

No it doesn't. Windows 10 is very good at adjusting to new hardware. As a precaution, before moving the OS, I would delete the IDE ATA/ATAPI disk controller from device manager then shutdown before moving the OS over. That's about the only driver that will keep Windows from booting on a new system. Then make sure you load the chipset specific disk controller driver on the new computer to keep the maximum efficiency.

  10. Current PC uses the standard Microsoft Serial ATA Controller, as everytime I cleaned video drivers to update those on AMD, as installing over top didn't always go well, and somehow it deleted the specific Serial ATA controller, so current install don't have to worry on that part

For Intel System will get the Specific Serial ATA controller

While a clean install is not required as said, I highly recommend it. Time and time again users have issues from not going with a clean install when changing chipsets.

  12. Thank you all for the replies! leaning towards highly recommended clean install, then when Creators update comes, probably go with Keeps Files, and settings and let it do in place upgrade as OS should still be fairly clean by then.

Might Try Windows Defender again on that system, current system I lag in games it seems while using it, not sure why, experience massive lag in Second life Firestorm viewer at times, and other games, Not sure if really Defender related or something else

Then again I may just choose to use Avast and just still with Avast Free

    NEW PC Setup

Microsoft has reported an issue with stuttering in games, and they are working to fix it. Hopefully progress has been made in the Fall Creator's Update to fix it.

  14. I Hope so lol, anyways newer system should help somewhat lol or at least be able to support more games, and enjoy them lol

I know back in 2012 with my old HP P6-2133W System, got it from Walmart then, set it up, then ran HP support assistant to make sure all updates was in lol, well program recommended a bios update (had Critical next to it) so I was like ok install, well PC rebooted and never booted again.

Reported that to HP, Rep was like since you just got it from store, would be quicker to return it and get a replacement model

So if I do decide to update this new PC's bios not doing it from any program from within windows, will use usb flash drive and file directly from Asus site, and follow the directions fully

  15. Ok NEW PC setup, had 1 BSOD already though, despite I did clean install system onto my Western Digital SSD, Did reinstall Avast could that be the cause of the Memory Management BSOD? otherwise it seems to be fairly stable, Temps are around 45-51C with one game open, so guess not too bad

Might Drop Avast in Favor of Defender later on
