Windows 10: New PC will not boot from USB or DVD

I am building a new PC and, when I try to boot the machine from either a USB created by the Media Recovery tool, or from the proper Windows 10 DVD that I bought, the machine simply goes to BSOD and gives me error codes, mostly SYSTEM PTE MISUSE or PAGE ERROR FOUND IN NON-PAGED AREA. The system doesn't even have an OS on it, so how can it give me these errors? I am unable to get the machine into Safe Mode, and the steps for getting into the Advanced Recovery area does not work either.


From the sounds of things, this is a hardware problem, but I cannot figure out where the problem lies.

I understand your concern and frustration you have been through. I will be glad to assist you.

1. Have you changed the boot priority to USB/DVD?

First you need to verify and if necessary change the boot order in the BIOS settings so that your PC will boot from the DVD drive (or USB device if you created a bootable USB Flash drive). You can do this by making the DVD drive / USB device the first device
listed in the boot order and the hard (or SSD) drive your second device the BIOS, exit as save the BIOS changes.

Installing windows off of a USB stick

Step By Step from vista:
From admin cmd prompt

1. diskpart
1a. list disk
2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk

 

Can't boot x64 Win10 setup from USB or DVD


Did anyone solve this problem of clean installing a 64 bit version of Windows on old hardware?

I have Windows 10 FCU 32 bit working on a Socket 939 motherboard. My CPU meets the Windows 10 64 bit requirements provided I do a clean install. However, I'm stuck as others on this thread have noted:

1. My PC doesn't support booting from USB sticks. I tried the Plop boot manager to boot from a USB stick but that didn't work.
2. I created a boot DVD via the Media Creation Tool which just stops with a Window logo. The DVD is fine since I can boot it on 2 other more recent PCs.
3. Other DVDs e.g. a Reflect recovery DVD do boot fine in the old PC

Why can't I boot from the DVD created by the Media Creation Tool on an old PC?
