  1. New SSD, Attempting new clean install via usb Nothing Works

New SSD, Attempting new clean install via usb Nothing Works Embarrassed to say I have been working on this problem for 6 weeks!! I need help please. I was on windows 8.1 with normal hard drive Dell Inspiron 3847, 16 gb memory and all FINE, Then Chrome started getting very slow. I uninstalled Chrome and put it back in, things would work for a day. Lots of freezes started happening. I upgraded to windows 10, loads of high cpu and disk percentages, reset windows 10 a few times, would work for a day but when it slept or hibernated, could never recover, froze, repair, system restore, etc. Days I would be down trying to get back up just from sleeping or hibernation. Tried to go back o 8.1, wouldn't boot, all kind of errors. Tried all resolutions, No Go. Dow with dvd's, loaded other programs to fix mbr, no help, didn't work, formatted my disk, installed windows 10, fail. Started hearing my disk make noise, so I bought a new SSD. I left hard drive in case but took off the power and ?sata cable and transferred them to the new samsung evo ssd. I booted Dell, pressed f2 or f12 and chose usb as first boot, put usb with windows 10 made from media creation tool and freezing on dell screen, or freezing on 4 blue squares from Windows, or going black and blue screen showing error code and press options for uefi, etc. I tried all those options, and still cannot put a new windows copy onto this desktop. Tried 3 different bootable usb's

    :)

  2. Clean installing Windows 10 on new SSD

I have upgraded my Win8.1 to Win10. I want to add an SSD and do a clean install of Win10. My concerns are regarding the activation of Win10 after the clean install on the new SSD. I know how to create a bootable Win10 on an USB stick but will the new Win10
    activate without a problem?

Win10 clean install on Samsung SSD 850 EVO

BLUF: SSD is not listed ubder "Where do you want to install Windows?"

    Steps Complete:

    1. I've create a Win10 bootable install usb.

    2. I connect the new Samsung SSD 850 EVO via SATA.

    3. I reboot PC and verify SSD is seen by the motherboard/BIOS

    4. Begin Win10 install via usb.

    5. Get to "Where do you want to install Windows?" and the SSD is not listed

    Problems:

    1. Samsung does not offer a driver for the 850 on their website

    2. Cannot locate driver elsewhere

    Unsuccessful Mitigations Steps Attempt:

    A. Format & partition SSD via Windows Disk Management, then retried steps 1-5 above....same result

    B. Clone existing HHD onto SSD via "Image for Windows" by TeraByte, then verified SSD contents via Windows Explorer....similar result

Can you please offer some advice on locating a driver for a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 1TB drive? Or an alternative method?

    Thank you

    Difficulties installing a new SSD

    Hi RalphBrands,

Thank you for reaching back. I am sorry to hear that the steps didn't work for you. Let's try the following steps to see if this solves the issue.

It's possible that the drive has write protection, (If the drive has write protection, we can't do changes to it.) we can try to remove it by running these commands:

    1) Press the Win+R keys on your keyboard to open the Run box.

    2) Type diskpart -> press Enter to run it.

    3) Inside the diskpart environment -> type and run each of these commands by pressing Enter.

    4) Type list disk -> press Enter.

    5) Identify your SSD in the list -> type select disk X -> press Enter (where X is the name of your SSD).

    6) Run the command attributes disk clear readonly.

    7) Wait for the process to complete

Next is to attempt to format your new SSD inside Diskpart

Run the commands in order below:

    1) list disk

    2) select disk n (n is the disk number you wish to format)

    3) clean

    4) create partition primary

    5) format fs=ntfs quick

    6) assign letter=x (x is the drive letter you wish the assign for the drive)

Hope this helps. Let me know so I can further assist you. Have a great day!
