  1. New Windows Update makes my hard drive unbootable

My laptop (Dell Inspiron 15 7559) using Windows 10 keeps trying to install the update:

    2018-09 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1803 for x64-based Systems (KB4464218)

The installation never finishes, but then tries to roll back the changes, restarts, and then BIOS says "no boot device found"

As a workaround, I have to use a bootable Windows USB stick, run startup recovery using the repair tools, and then the rollback of the Windows Update continues, and I eventually get back into Windows.

This has become annoying because every few days my laptop forces this Windows Update, which "crashes" my laptop, making me go through the repair process again.

Has anyone encountered this issue? If so, can you please point me in the right direction?

    :)

    Hi Rodolpho,

We want to know about the issue you're having with your recovery drive. Please answer the questions below:

    • Are you trying to reinstall Windows 8 or Windows 10?
    • If you already upgraded to Windows 10, were you able to create a new copy of the recovery drive?

We suggest creating a new copy of the recovery drive and then follow the steps provided by Andre Da Costa above this thread.
