Windows 10: Newegg Windows 10 price & release date

Who said anything about free upgrade ? I was talking about Bing/MSN news that were really late with NEWS.

 

Free is good but I want the DVD so I can build a new PC or just have a backup just in case my motherboard dies.

No idea, I was asked so I answered.

 

Those are OEM (system builder) editions, not full Retail versions. Just keep that in mind. OEM versions are a lot cheaper than the full retail versions.

 

I have three Fifty dollar bills taped to the top of my new HP desktop PC to buy the retail version of Windows 10. I figure Amazon will have it on their web site the full version by July 1 for $149.95 with free ship. No hassle, no worry on upgrading, just a plain easy switch from WINs 7 Pro 64-bit to WINs 10 Home.

Like the Disney song says...."It's a Small, Small world".

Before New Egg or Amazon even get their copies of Windows 10, it will be available for a lot less, elsewhere. Eh?

Me thinks some folks have tunnel vision, when it comes to acquiring things like OS's.*Wink

I have to ask the question . . . Will August 31 be Microsoft's official RTM date, or will it be the date Newegg and other retailers will be able to start selling Windows 10?

RTM - We've been over this before and I think I caused it, but we now know for certain that RTM means "Release to Manufacturing/Manufacturers (I'm still not entirely clear on which). Either way, the disks have to be pressed (burned in our lingo) and shipped to the various OEMs and retailers.

I think "pressing and/or burning" will soon become a misnomer, because of what can be done online in today's market. That said, however, do the various OEMs have their own pressing equipment? I would say, "Probably so." Will the retailers have the same? To that I would say, "Maybe." Because you have retailers like Newegg (possible pressing equipment), Amazon.com (probably not).

As we all know, the above is mostly pure supposition on my part. What do you think?

That would be nice, but I'd have to have a new mobo and new RAM and, and, and . . .

 

The OEM like Dell, HP etc, buy licenses from Microsoft, they may get some DVD's from Microsoft, more likely just ISO images. They will (or will have) disks made for them with their custom images and OEM logo's on them. You'll only get those if you ask for them and or pay extra to get them with a PC. Buy a business class PC and you'll likely get install media with it, but consumer purchases almost always come with no included media. You've expected to make a recovery disk set on your own.
I'm pretty sure retailers like Newegg buy their Windows install media pre boxed from Microsoft. They don't make any disks themselves.
