Windows 10: Ninite bug, drag and drop bug, or both?

OK this one bugged the shit out of me. I was finishing setting up a PC for my Mom a friend sent me. Had Windows and office and nothing else, clean install. I did a few of the remaining updates and everything is fine.

I go to Ninite to grab a couple more apps and proceed to install them. Naturally Ninite leaves the shortcut on the desktop. I then make a folder to move all the short cuts into. All of a sudden my pointer has a swirly blue busy icon next to it and explorer crashes and reloads instantly. Any windows that were open are closed and no icons moved.

I then open up the desktop folder in explorer next to the shortcuts on the desktop and NONE are in this folder!!! The shortcuts are functional and launch, but cant move. I end up reinstalling Windows, checking if its OK after each update and I ended up manually installing each app. So far so good.

I do this on one of my spare machines to see if it might be a hardware issue, and its doing the same thing. I tried it a couple of times messing with Windows and end up leaving it alone. I am RDP'ed into it currently.

I reinstalled Win10 on a music server I have due to a unrelated issue and it did the same thing. After a few hours I bring up my other machines RDP session and for fun I try and drag the once crashing shortcuts into a folder and what do you know. It works as it should.

I left my music server alone for almost a day now but its still crashing explorer and relaunching.

NEVER had an issue with Ninite and I use it everytime I set up a new machine or to update it (rerun the .exe)

So what the hell is causing this issue??!!

Drag and Drop

Hi Charles,

the steps you suggested didn't work for me but, when pressing the escape key it somehow expanded the drive and by using drag and drop to the single file in the list worked.

In the past I could drag and drop multiple folders onto the drive on the network computer(s). Doing it on individual folders will take far too long and time consuming and is not an option.

Microsoft should be able to identify what is blocking it and issue a fix.

My machine is multi boot so tomorrow I will try with Windows 7.

Oh, okay, I get it on that but, here's what I did; I pressed Ctrl and PrtScn and the Snipping Tool popped up with the overlay and crosshairs ready to go! Only worked once though!

BTW, you can eliminate steps 2 and 3. *Wink
