    No 5.1 w/VIA Envy24 chipset. Test tones work perfectly, but that's it.


    Title more or less says it all. Since upgrading to Windows 10, my VIA Envy24 chipset sound card will no longer play in 5.1 via SPDIF. Prior to the upgrade, it functioned flawlessly.

    The strange thing is when I play the test tones for Dolby & DTS in my Sound properties, they play perfectly, reflecting that 5.1 via SPDIF is working fine. However, when I attempt to play a movie in Kodi, my receiver simply will not play in 5.1. I've double and triple-checked my Kodi settings (e.g., of course passthrough is enabled; I've selected the correct audio output device), and I know it's not an issue with my receiver.

    I have the latest drivers from VIA, which unfortunately are not all that new.

    I know there's the lengthy thread above about similar problems with Realtek cards, but haven't seen anyone mention the Envy24 chipsets. Is there a generic driver I could possibly use (I assume there's no way to use the Realtek driver with my card)?

    Any ideas/feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    I also have realtek HD audio, but am having the same issue with 5.1 Dolby digital live. "failed to play test tone"

    would this fall under the same issue as DTS 5.1?

    upgraded from Win 7

    I have tried official Realtek R2.79 drivers. still "failed to play test tone"

    I can get 2 channel sound, just no 5.1

    5.1 Channel Surround Sound not working in Windows 10.

    This is just freaking ridiculous. I've tried getting 5.1 working on both my Sound Blaster Audigy FX using headphone to 2xRCA for each (front, rear, sub/center) and on an Asus Xonar DGX.

    Both provide the same result, front left and right work,, center, sub, rears don't when performing a 5.1 test.

    That said, they all work fine when playing music.

    I've also tested the DGX via SPDIF out and it produces the same result.

    Fairly displeased with Microsoft about this one. I run these same cards in Linux and they work perfectly!
