No application focused after switching desktop

As the title says, after switching desktops, no application is focused. This is extremely annoying, because additional ALT+TAB is required just to start typing. I was excited about this feature and it looks really great, but this small bug makes it almost unusable for me.

    :)

    N8 camera auto-focus not working

I had same problem with my Nokia N8 camera, it's not focusing either photo mode or video mode. The solution is switching several times between camera and video mode, but you have to do it every time after opening camera application. It's big soft bug ;/

  3. What is going on for Windows 10 Mobile at 2016????

I was at //build/ last week. While the phone wasn't the focus much of the development information is applicable to a range of devices including the phone. They seem to be focusing on Universal Windows Applications (UWP)
which can be used to target Windows Phone, Desktop/Laptop/Tablet, Xbox One, Raspberry Pi, and the HoloLens. A UWP application made for the desktop can also run on the phone provided that the application's UI is made to present information on a smaller screen.

Hello jur4sic Welcome to the Ten Forums!

I wouldn't be alarmed about seeing that at all. When going from one window open for anything be it the web browser or Explorer window on one monitor with another open on the next I first have to click on the one I want to wake it up! when having switched from that to something else.

When swapping desktops all activities are put into a standby mode to prevent anything from happening when you are viewing another desktop while having a particular program or window open on another. This is what you are seeing there. That's a normal function whch will help prevent anything from being typed in one window or app when you are active in another.

Hi Night Hawk, thanks for your reply. I'm not sure I was clear enough on the issue. I am absolutely aware that when switching desktops the inactive one should be suspended and shouldn't get any focus whatsoever. The problem is that when switching back to the inactive desktop, focus is not restored.

So, for example I'm writing this forum post here and while I'm at it I want to go and put a new song on Youtube, which is running on another desktop. I do WinKey + Ctrl + Right Arrow, change the song, do WinKey + Ctrl + Left Arrow to get back to the forum post, start typing and - nothing. It is not focused, so I need to do another Alt + Tab just to focus back on the browser window to start typing.

As a developer I intend to use this feature a lot, because of so many apps running at the same time. If I have to do Alt + Tab every single time I switch desktop, the feature is not so good any more and I might need to stick to one desktop.

  6. I never even use the hot key method but hit the Task View button when going to switch back and forth between perhaps multiple destkops. Have you tried that to see if the problem persists? And are you still running on the initial upgrade over the previous version of Windows.?

The description there sounds too much like you are! The 10 upgrade over the previous version you were running has now simply become buggy! Or in other words problematic and will eventually need to be replaced with a fresh clean install of 10 in order to see a normal functioning Windows 10.

I didn't want to hit you hard in the face with that first off! But you may just have to see that or for the present moment or what is called a Repair Install of 10 using the upgrade option a second time in order to save program installs and the present user settings, personal files packed up into the Windows.old folder which may or may not be seen as I did run into problems with 10 a few times already having upgraded two desktops and a laptop. All three ended up needing to see clean installs of 10 and are working 100% normally as a result!

But seeing to a clean install following an upgrade to any newer version is something most don't expect! This is where people are getting caught off guard presently with the free upgrades to 10 not realizing that upgrade installs can be buggy at times while clean installs are the route the experienced user knows enough already to expect! When others have you look at their machines to solve problems you end up learning that only too quickly! *Biggrin

Anyways these are the two guides you will want to look over closely. 1) How to perform an in place Upgrade to Repair Install of Windows 10

If you decide to try out the repair install first still look over the steps and cautions seen in the clean install guide for things like unplugging any extra hard drives or devices like usb flash drives, digital cameras, or a cell phone, smart phone, or anything with rewritable onboard memory where the Windows 10 installer could end up placing boot files and temporary installation folders!

I ran into a big one when not knowing that i had to unplug two storage drives here and 10 refused to even go on during several failed upgrade attempts until looking over the clean install guide! Then 10 went on quickly! Due to expecting see any number of people running into problems like these I added several guides as links in my forum signature for quick references!

I've just tried using mouse for switching desktops and the problem seems to have gone away. Now even using keyboard the focus is restored. Seems like a minor glitch that's easy to fix. Thanks!

  8. No application focused after switching desktop

That's good to hear! The other options of course are what you would call the "Last Resort" options when nothing else works. But if the problem should return or something else comes up where you can't find a solution at you have the guides there to take you through the last resort options available.

The Task View button is how I have been swapping back and forth between desktops when using this feature. Mostly that has been for simply explaining how it works while not having it use as much as you would there. I monitor a second system remotely to keep an eye on how things are going on the desktop for either Window 10 or 7 there! *Biggrin

Now just imagine multiple desktops on multiple machies all going on at once! That could get very involved!

They say there's an infinite number of solutions. Sometimes the thing that works out the best is the most often overlooked simple process of using the mouse?!
