No audio device is installed (How to fix?)

I had weak sound from my system speakers under sound video and game controllers, and I found that I needed to update my Realtek driver so I did. After downloading that new driver the sound was not improved. I also had a sound controller Intel(R) Display Audio (or something Intel) in the sound video and game controllers line so I thought it might somehow be conflicted with the Realtek controller so I uninstalled the sound controller Intel(R) Display Audio. When I did that, I had no sound and I got the message "No audio device is installed" on the speaker symbol in the tray. When I viewed the event log associated with that uninstall, I got this:

Now I see the Intel(R) Display Audio in Audio Inputs and Outputs, but I still do not see it added back to Sound Video and Game Controllers and the speaker sound is still off.

This seems to be a common problem with several solutions, but the solution (or solutions) are complicated and I don't know where to start or what to do. What to do next?

    Thanks,

    :)

I guess I'm wondering if it is my board that needs replacing, or if it is just a Registry problem? The dxdiag check said that 'No sound card was found.' And the 'Resources' tab in Device Mangager for the audio driver says 'The installation failed because
a function driver was not specified for this device instance.' The Media Registry doesn't look right to me; for the Media one,

4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318 Audio and video devices -There weren't any LowerFilters values listed (does that matter?) For "(default)" it reads "Value not set." I'm willing to attempt anything right now, it just won't give me any sound at all.

  4. No audio device is installed (How to fix?)

    Welcome to the TenForums.

First things first we need to get you back to where you were. To do that you need to run system restore. At a minimum you need to go back to before you remove the Intel Display Audio.

Once you have restored, please open you device manager and confirm that you can see your Realtek Audio driver in the sound section. Note the version.

If you can't get this one from HP for your series of machine. Please confirm your machine model. Take the latest. Install it. Confirm it installs in device manager.

Either way post back here with results, System restore okay? Can or can't install Realtek driver.

Since you uninstalled the Intel Display audio and you no longer have audio, that suggests you are using HDMI (??) If this is the case then the Realtek is not being used and not causing your problem.

First step as mentioned is to reinstall the Intel Display Audio.

Somehow I got the Intel controller installed and restarted the PC. The restart seemed to fix the problem.
