Windows 10: "No audio devices are installed"

*To preface everything, I have tried everything that initially comes up when you search for how to fix this error.* Running Windows 10 Pro ver1909


This happened last night after I restarted my system, it just came out of nowhere. There is no sound coming from my computer, and when I look deeper in my audio settings, it says "No audio devices are installed". I already know something is wrong because in device manager my headphones show up.

So all day today I have been troubleshooting it, and I have tried to following fixes:

- Updating the audio drivers that were present at the time which were "High Definition Audio", which seemed to be a Microsoft default driver. Both online and from my computer options, and restarting. Didnt work.


- I uninstalled the drivers and restarted so that it would install the most up to date drivers. Didnt work.


- Adding legacy hardware in device manager. Didnt work.


- At this point I think I remember that the drivers I used to have were Realtek, I dont know how they got removed, but I went looking for how to install those, and ultimately used the software Driver Easy to download the drivers, then manually installed them and restarted. Didnt work.


I know I tried other solutions as well but these are the biggest ones I can remember.

I dont know if this is just a Windows 10 bug or what but it's very frustrating. I would appreciate any help that anyone can offer!

Numerous audio devices - why?

Looks like you have audio drivers installed for your AMD card. If you don't use it, you should be able to just uninstall that aspect of AMD drivers. I don't use the Audio through my Nvidia card, so I just don't install that driver.

Or, just ignore them as you suggest.

 

No Audio Output Device is Installed

Hi,

You will need to select Windows 8 from the drop down list while installing the driver in compatibility mode.

I would suggest you to try setting the speaker as default audio output by following the steps below and check if it helps.

1. Right click on the sound icon on the right bottom corner of the taskbar.

2. Select "playback devices".

3. If "speaker" is not set as the default device, highlight it and click "set as default".

5. Save the changes.

No audio device is installed (How to fix?)

Since you uninstalled the Intel Display audio and you no longer have audio, that suggests you are using HDMI (??) If this is the case then the Realtek is not being used and not causing your problem.

First step as mentioned is to reinstall the Intel Display Audio.
